After I posted on the ridiculous prices on the “vintage” wood tennis racquets yesterday, an Anon commenter said:
I doubt you will find antique tennis racquets at Goodwill... they won't even accept 15 yr old TVs…
Well, competitive gal that I am, I took that as a challenge.
Total number of Goodwill stores searched: 2, but that was because of proximity. If I’d gone to the Goodwill near my office first, and at lunch, I could have knocked this challenge off in mere hours. But instead, I went to my printer’s plant and then to a Goodwill near there. I went to the GW near my office after work.
Total time elapsed from posting to acquisition: 7 hours, 21 minutes To be fair, I was in my office for six of those hours.
Total savings from OKL to my Goodwill: $68.27 (not including shipping).
No one but no one can put a BIGGER smile on my face then you.
ReplyDeleteYou rock!

Too funny, you go girl! I wish I still had my Davis Cup Classic...I loved that racquet! Hmm, now you have me wondering if it's buried in my messy garage?!
ReplyDeleteKat :)
This is equal parts hysterical and awesome!

So, ummm, does this mean you're taking up tennis?
ReplyDeleteAnytime I identify something I need/want, my first port of call is the thrift shops in my area. Then (if it's clothes) the consignment shops, then I look at places like Tesco or Asda (but I don't trust their quality that much). Then I look in the department stores to get a gauge on retail price and quality. Then I check online and if indicated, I'll go back to the department store...if I still want the item.
That's a girl! Well done Meg :-)

Look out Meg, your readership might start putting you to more challenges. What fun!
ReplyDeleteLove it. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteMeg, I love that you took on that challenge--it made me laugh out loud! I especially love the picture of the receipt!!!
ReplyDeleteSWEET!! LOL Will you forward it to OKL?!!
ReplyDeleteYou're the bomb!
ReplyDeleteWAY TO GO, MEG!!!!! I'd pick you for my team any day of the week. Mary
ReplyDeleteMy books are amazing!!!xoxo
Too funny! I can only assume the folks @ OKL don't get out much...
ReplyDeleteHilarious!!
ReplyDeleteYeah Meg! Point well made in a short amount of time. I always wonder about those people that defend OKL, they must have some vested interest in the company.
ReplyDeleteGame, Set & Match!
ReplyDeleteYou need to craft a wrestling-style Championship Belt and wear it whenever you go thrifting.
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Even the Goodwill employee looks triumphant!
ReplyDeleteDitto everyone else. Well done! And thanks for promoting the important work of Good Will.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Courtney
Is that the goodwill on Greenmount? Is the Wise penny thrift store still going? Is that on york? I found a vintage gucci purse there once, with polished bamboo handles. Three dollars. I gave it to a friend who has a deep appreciation for high end labels. Should have sold it on ebay, but it's so fun to make someone's day for $3!
ReplyDeleteThis is why I love you despite not even knowing you, Meg!
ReplyDeleteI saw 7 of them today at Unique/Value Village on New Hampshire Ave @ 495 and thought of you. Did not buy, however. Just thought of you.
ReplyDeleteNice work! xx
ReplyDeleteWell played!
