One of the outcomes I’d like from writing Pigtown*Design is to inform people about Baltimore and all that it has to offer. I worry that perceptions of Baltimore are derived from either John Water’s movies, especially some of the early ones, and the HBO series, The Wire. Don’t get me wrong, there are parts of Baltimore that do reflect those two realities, but neither one of them is my reality. In each issue, Elle Decor Goes To… an American city. In the March 2010 issue they visit Baltimore. I was honoured to be included as one of the people they interviewed about the city, and when the March issue hits the stands in a few weeks, you’ll be able to see what Elizabeth Evitts Dickinson, an architecture and design writer, Deborah Buck, the owner of Buck House, a Manhattan art and antiques gallery, and I say about about the city we’ve all called home.
Thank you to Jill Gerston, the article’s author, for interviewing me and including me in the article!
Lived for quite some time outside of B'more and that's where my mom grew up. Lots of great parts to it. Congrats on the reference in the article! Can't wait to check it out.
ReplyDeletethat is great! look forward to it. Meg-your blog has made me want to see Baltimore. You will be happy to know my immediate association is Pauline de Rothschild and Billy Baldwin-2 of my design and style icons! look forward to the article.

ReplyDeleteexcellent!
ReplyDeleteI have always appreciated the charm of baltimore. And I even considered moving there when I returned to the area from NY. I love the rowhouses and the eclectic neighborhoods with so many cute couples walking the streets.
I am so excited to read what you have to say about Baltimore.
Look forward to the article. So well deserved. Shows Elle Decor has its ear to the ground or at least its eyes on the blogs.
ReplyDeleteWooohooo! I will be anxiously awaiting the satisfying thunk of Elle Decor dropping through my mail slot. Congrats Meg! Can't wait to read it.

ReplyDeleteYay for you, Meg! I've never been anywhere near Baltimore, but your love of the city comes through so clearly in your blog that I wish I could pop on over and see it all for myself. (and drop a bundle at your favorite new fabric source!)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations - you are a great ambassador for Baltimore! That is one terrific Elle Decor cover too - great to be a part of that issue.

Congratulations, Meg!! How perfect since you always have the inside scoop....Thank you so much for your posts on the fabric source--can't wait to get up there myself-- and to read in Elle Decor about other highlights of a city I look forward to investigating further.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the article! I have never been to Baltimore before but in my mind I picture it to be a beautiful port city with a bustling harbor. I'll never forget how in my favorite movie, Funny Girl, Barbra Streisand says to Omar Shariff "That she never knew that Baltimore was the most beautiful city in the world!" Hopefully, I'll be able to discover its beauty one day for myself.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Caitlin
