At the last possible moment, I have cancelled the purchase of the house that I've invested so much time, effort and energy in purchasing. There were some significant structural issues that came to light at the last minute, so I felt I had to walk away. The house is 110 years old, so I expected some issues, but not the ones that we found.
The hunt begins again.

Oh dear! Bit of a rollercoaster, which aint fun.
ReplyDeleteOh bummer! But I guess best you find out now rather than later...xo
ReplyDeleteoh no :-( At least you found them though just in the knick of time!
ReplyDeleteI predict you find something even better :)
ReplyDeleteSorry for the setback Meg. Hopefully the Universe will come through with something better.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, and it must be terribly disappointing but it is a wise decision.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad for your loss, yet happy you made the correct decision. Score 1 for karma.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry. It's hard to walk away, especially after you imagine yourself in a house. You made the right decision.
ReplyDeleteOh that must be disappointing for you Meg. I'll keep seeing you in 'just the right' house in my mind!
ReplyDeleteDarn! It's all one big learning experience, isn't it? You'll find something even better. At least interest rates are in your favor.
ReplyDeleteyikes! better now than later!
ReplyDeleteAs hard as it is to see a sale go through, if you found major problems, better now, yes? I was selling a house that took a year, and the day before settlement the person (a D.C. schoolteacher) had her work cut, bank got a whiff of it, and her loan disappeared. Such are the times.
ReplyDeleteYour next home is out there. You'll find it.
So sorry, that is really hard to do, but sounds like the right thing to do. I agree with the others, your house is out there. And it's a "buyer's market!" Best wishes to you...
ReplyDeleteOh that's terrible! But everyone is right...you'll find something you love without the problems. And I'm sure it's fun staying with a friend in the meantime. Like college!
ReplyDeleteOh, how disappointing and frustrating! I also ended up not getting a house at the last possible moment (turned out the guy trying to sell it didn't actually own it!) But less than two weeks later we found the house we are in now that is SO much nicer and more what I wanted in the first place. So keep your hopes up, there's always something better on the way!
ReplyDelete- Meg
real estate can be so time consuminng and frustrating,I am sorry that the inspection turned out crappy, but remember this at least you knew and could make an informed decision on purchasing or not. Would the seller be willing to handle the more $ items on the report??? You can negotiate anything remember that. Take some time off from looking, relax and when ready ask for the disclosure up front. Good luck honey.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry. Those house inspections can be a blessing, although I know it is a jolt. You will find better.
ReplyDeleteI know it's a disappointment, but it just means that it wasn't meant to be and that your "true" home is out there waiting for you to find it!
ReplyDeleteThe world is consipiring in your favor... trust it!
all the best,
joan
Been there, done that so I empathize with how frustrated you must be after all that, but I just know that THE perfect (and structurally sound)house is out there waiting for you!!!!! Susan
ReplyDeleteI know you must be sad and disappointed, but thank goodness you found these major problems before you bought the house! In the end, it must be for the best.
ReplyDeletedang dang dang... so sorry to hear that.. hoping for better things to come!
ReplyDeleteOne day, when you are sitting in the living room of the house you were meant to live in, you will look back at all of this and laugh happily.
