You know I love to tease One King’s Lane, and I do buy things from them, but sometimes, I just wonder what they’re thinking: Nice that it’s a Warhol, but not really who I’d want looking down at me from my wall. And shouldn’t this really be on 1st Dibs? And would you really buy a piece of art like this on-line?
Thoughts?

ReplyDeleteWell, my first thought was: This has to be a joke.
My second thought was: That must be a typo.
Now I'm thinking: Some people just have too much money.
I love the completely inappropriate condition category it has been listed under: 'Vintage, antique or gently used' :)
ReplyDeleteWhen watching MDD I heard one of the founders calculate what they had to sell a piece for, $100 must be in the $500 dollar range. I understand mark up but really?
ReplyDeleteSurely a Christie's auction would be the best place for this. It's obviously not worth what they are asking or it would be :-)

I had a client with four Warhols from the Mao series. I grouped them in the vestibule, but they really weren't seen on entering, but as leaving. Perhaps better than the Electric Chair series, I thought.
ReplyDelete....but they match the sofa! Seriously...Nyet.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad someone else thinks that sometimes they have crazy things at crazy prices for an "online discount" site!
ReplyDeleteRed is a hot color right now though, maybe that's it! ;-)
Kat :)
Funny I just got off OKL and was thinking on their vintage tabletop - these items are to die for- but who can really purchase $3,000 worth of plates! And then I went onto to buy a set of chargers for $29 :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of the comments......really! The pricing is questionable at best and art or fine antiques from a discount site? Thanks for posing the question! Mary
ReplyDeleteI have to say that seeing them in action and talking about the mark-ups on MDD turned me off....
ReplyDeleteLOL! So funny...

I am just amazed at the prices on One Kings Lane, even on sale days. I know some of those pieces are being sold at ten times value. I think they listed these just for shock value. Be very careful when buying things. A set of 50's trays sold in post war Japan to military families recently sold for $649. They weren't great in the 50's and you can probably get them at any thrift store in Florida or Arizona for $20. Know your merchandise. Ann
ReplyDeletedoes anyone think they are doing this just for the buzz?
ReplyDeleteconsidering how they've positioned themselves as exclusive and for a sophisticated, knowledgeable customer, it's a little insulting that they assume someone is stupid enough to NOT know to purchase at auction.
