Knock, Knock…

Who’s there?

Oh, this fun moose {or elk} door knocker!knocker I have a non-functioning door-bell at the new house, and I just put great brushed nickel numbers on the front door, which I want to paint. But maybe this is what I need for the front door. It’s cheap… £19.99 from Rockett St. George in the UK.

Next question… the house is a pale yellow, and I want to paint the front door a fun colour. Suggestions?

  2. Traditionally people with yellow houses go with black, burgundy, forest green or navy, but I say...it depends on what you want. In Georgetown (D.C.) people paint their doors hot pink, purple, orange...

Gray and yellow is so popular right now in design, but I don't like the idea of a gray door.

I do like Mr. Moose. I have a pine cone door knocker from Michael Healy, and I highly recommend his craftsmanship and quality. I also have a Victorian door knocker on another door.

  3. Periwinkle or purple. Bright or dark. Experiment until you find what looks good to you.

  4. I think of you as a blue-loving gal. Why not one of the blues, you can't lose with the yellow + blue combo, it won't pi** off the neighbors, it'll make you happy every time you walk in the door, and Connor will love it because he knows you love blue. Primary blue, cobalt, periwinkle, newport, even peacock, get that fandeck out and have some fun with it. Speaking of blues, sounds like you had quite the negative experience w/ that person who followed you into the bookstore, ugh, but not even one teeeenytiny tableside photo of you lunching with Manner Born, and Bonus Daughter?

  5. Meg I am thinking a deep plum, or even periwinkle, get lots of large paint cards and tape them on the door for a few days!! Something will strike you!!

  6. I wonder if glossy apricot would work (with white trim). Although you may need more contrast. I like the deep plum idea. I'm wanting a dove grey house with a bright yellow door.

  7. That knocker is great! Turquoise might be the punch of color your door needs although I like the above suggestion of apricot, very '80s.

  9. My first thought was purple, but in Baltimore that might be a bit too Ravens-y with the yellow.

What about a dark magenta? Peacock blue would be my second choice.

  10. 1. That's definitely a moose.

    2. Door? Red. Or purple.

  11. I'd go with a Blue of Provence. Though of course, red will bring inspired prosperity!

  12. I think of pale with pale, bright with bright. So creamy turquoise would be my choice!

  13. How about painting the door "eggplant"--gives the effect of black, but has a tremendous amount of life in it. I love the moose. Mary

  14. Love that door knocker! How about a marvelous French blue or something a few shades lighter than egglplant??? What fun for you! Paint away, my dear. If you don't like it, you can change it for $25 and a little elbow grease.
