I love learning new things, whether it is figuring out how to create something special or reading an interesting book. A number of years ago, I read an article on different types of people, and came to a clear realization about myself. Some people are product people and others are process people. Product people love having the finished item to show off. This could be a piece of needlework or an incredible dish that they have cooked. They love getting to the end point and having something to show for their work.
Other people are process people. They love figuring out how to do something. They revel in the creative steps involved in making things, but could care less about the finished product. They just know that they learned how to do something new and now they can move on to learning something else.
I am a process person. I adore figuring out how to do myriad things like knitting, sailing and cooking. But once I finish with what I've done, I don't care about it anymore. It's the challenge of acquiring a new skill that's the draw to me. Right now, I am making jewelry with the amazing pieces of glass that I've gotten from Housewerks, and which illustrate this post. I am working with a diamond-tipped drill bit to smooth and shape these gorgeous pieces and then am making necklaces from them. Do you know which you are? Are you a process person or a product person?
PS… Here’s Connor with one of his babies. He’s all tuckered out.
Interesting musing there Meg!
ReplyDeleteAwwww, I always love the Connor pictures, especially with one of his babies :)
If you love these beauties, go to this site and check out these soap rocks. I have sold them for years and they smell fabulous and everyone raves about them.
ReplyDeleteIt makes washing your hands a real nice treat. They last forever, always look good and last a long time.

Sorry to say, I'm a product person. It keeps me from trying lots of things, like drawing and painting and sewing, because I can't stand it if the product isn't professional quality on the first try. I am hopeless.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm a process person too. I tend to try a thing because it seems interesting and I want to know that I can do it, but once it's complete, that's enough of that!
ReplyDeleteCAn you be a bit of both Meg?? xv
ReplyDeleteNever thought of it this way. Definitely a process person, but trying to become both so things get finished.
ReplyDeleteMeg, Interesting post and something I have never really thought about before. I think I am like Vicki and a bit of both but might think about this more...
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a process person. No doubt about it. Love the picture of Conner.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I might try the Southside recipe this Friday, as John invited some friends by for happy hour. Thanks for sharing that one!
Product. I can also tell you my Myers-Briggs which also indicates that I need "closure." Taking tests like that used to take up a large amount of time at the Foundation where I used to work.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I do believe product. Sometimes hate the process but proud that I stuck through it! Connor is adorable. My dog too loves her "baby" Ha!
ReplyDeleteLove Connor's baby shot. So beautifully coordinated!
ReplyDeleteI am a Libra so I do both. Love learning new things, but I am practical so I like to have something to show for my time. My husband believes I like to learn new things, but I like to get new tools. Sounds like you have added a few new tools yourself and the work is beautiful.
New things to learn. New tools to use. New beauty to create. Life's good.
HBD... Libra, too! I love new tools and have a friend who works at Black & Decker, so I can get discounts from their company store.
ReplyDeleteLife is good!
I would say I am a product person, because I do not have lots of patience.( like for making jewelry, learning to knot etc. However within my skill set of art, I do experiment with new ideas, textures, mixed media etc
ReplyDeleteI'm with Home Before Dark- a bit of both. I love learning and trying new things, but I need to see a that all my effort has led me somewhere or I lose interest! So while the process gal in me is up for anything, the product side kicks in less than a week later!
ReplyDeleteVERY interesting! I always thought that I was a product person, but the more time I spend blogging, the more I think I'm a process person.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe it's just that the internet makes it easy to indulge the process side, and easy to neglect the product side.
PRODUCT!!! Especially after going through (still) this house project, I have come to realize (was just telling dh this last week) that I'm not a "love the process" kind of girl. I like to get it done, so I can sit back with a glass of wine and talk about how beautiful it(insert anything here) and enjoy it! '
ReplyDeleteLove Conner and his baby! Ella loves her babies too!
PROCESS - and a Libra too!
ReplyDeleteIdeally I would have to say product...sometimes I don't always get everything finished that I would like to.
ReplyDeleteConnor is so cute!!!
Meg, Thanks for this post, I am definitely process! I had to send this to my husband, he always thinks there is something wrong with me... I always want to learn something, produce (one) then, done with that.:)
ReplyDeletePam
Phew, thanks for allowing me the identity of a process type. This justifies all the fragments of achievement in my life. My problem is that I say 'been there, done that' before I actually have.
