I am so excited to see the upcoming movie, Julie & Julia. I think that Meryl Streep will do a brilliant job as Julia Child and it will be fun to see how the movie imagines France in the late 1940’s. I read the book, Julie & Julia, which was based on the blog, the Julie/Julia Project. You probably know the story by now: Julie Powell takes on the task of making each of the recipes in Julia Childs’ book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, in one year… in her small NYC apartment. The Julie/Julia Project book is interwoven with My Life in France, Julia Childs’ autobiography, written with her husband’s great-nephew, Alex Prud’homme.
Julie & Julia is the first movie based on a blog. Click here for a preview of the film.
You will love it! Streep is terrific. And, look at Paul's ring; I envied it through the whole movie.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait....but probably will have to as movies seem to take forever to come to Europe! xv
ReplyDeleteBought My Life in France at the airport a few days ago - enjoyed it so much! Looking forward to the movie.
ReplyDeleteMy son got one hour of cartoons and then we had one hour of Julia. He became a chef and has cooked in the Julia Child Kitchen in Napa. Better than becoming Road Runner!
ReplyDeleteomgosh - please don't think i am a copy cat - just on the same wavelength- i just scheduled a sunday morning post that is on the same subject!! off to read more of julie and julia - i love it
ReplyDeleteI read Julia's book on her life in France. Then bought her first cookbook. I'm strugglin'!
ReplyDeleteMrs. B... The turquoise ring? I can see it in the picture.
ReplyDeleteVicki... I'd say it will arrive in about October!
ReplyDeleteNotting Hill and ADG... I am not sure which one of you all I will see first (and you're both pretty close to each other), but I want to borrow the book! It's not likely to turn up at Book Thing any time soon.
ReplyDeleteMarnie... No worries! Great minds and all.
ReplyDeleteSee you in a few weeks!
I was a bit disappointed in the book, but the movie looks like it will be fabulous. I'm hoping this is one of the few cases where the movie will actually be better than the book.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be a fun film. I can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteI was talking to my friend Julie who told me that she just skipped the parts in Julie/Julia where she mused about Julia's life...
ReplyDeleteI have read both "My Life in France" and "Julie and Julia". I really preferred "My Life in France". Julia was quite a good writer. I felt as though she was talking straight to me and I was accompanying her on a marvelous journey through France in the 40's. Can't wait for the movie since one of my favorite writers is Nora Ephron.
ReplyDeleteMarion
I simply cannot wait to see this movie, combining two of my favorite topics ... food and blogging!
ReplyDeleteI am counting the days!!
ReplyDeleteMeryl rules!!
I am currently reading "My Life in France" and it is so enjoyable. Like Marion said, it's like Julia is talking directly to the reader. It seriously is making me want to buy her first cookbook (that she writes about in this book) and try some of the recipies. However, I did take a glance at it at the bookstore and it looks very daunting and some of the recipes are more than my stomach could handle, I'm afraid, as French food is much more daring than American food! (Lots of fish, which I'm not a big eater of!).
ReplyDeleteI've really been looking forward to this one!
ReplyDeleteI have just seen some more clips, and am very excited for this to release!
ReplyDeleteI am excited too and want to gather a group of friends and make a real celebration out of it. I haven't read My Life in France, but I think I will pick it up as you all seem to like it so much.
ReplyDeleteHer husband was so incredibly supportive of her, and just adored her, and what a catch he was...and had a twin brother. I am dying to see this. They had such a wonderful life together and there is something about Stanley and Meryl that just pops in chemistry.
