A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I bought the book "Scalamandre - Luxurious Home Interiors" and this is the first evening that I've had a chance to really go through the book and start reading.
I was really struck by the incredible colours in the fabrics and trims that Scalamandre created. What was also very fascinating were the pictures of the process for making everything.
There are only a couple of companies left that still do fabrics at this level of quality! The shot of the jacquard loom is great. I am guessing the book has shots of their antique equipment which is pretty amazing to see — as well as the skilled craftspeople they employ. I heard a talk by one of the principals of the firm when they did the fabrics for a historic preservation project in Wisconsin and I found both their history and attitude inspiring.
I'm glad you are enjoying the book. Did you also know that we now have an online outlet store which is available to the general public? Go to www.scalamandre.com and Enter the Showroom. There you will see a link for the Outlet Store. If you have any questions, email me at tconnolly@scalamandre.com.
