Apparently, Cintas Corp. of Cincinnati, a uniform and bathroom supply company, is sponsoring a contest to find America's Best Restroom (public). And we're just pleased as punch that one of them is right here in Baltimore. It's located in the Tremont Grand Hotel, which I wrote about here.
Some of the other finalists are in old hotels and theatres, and others are in places like Branson, Missouri and Las Vegas. Here are a couple of the old ones that I liked.
The Tremont Grand Hotel, Baltimore Macy's Union Square - San FranciscoRadio City Music Hall, New York The Fox Theatre, Detroit
The Tampa Theatre, TampaWhich is your favourite? You can vote for it here.

that marble column is gorgeous! What a piece of art!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Tremont-definitely!
ReplyDelete"Macys" is actually the old I Magnin bathroom. It is no longer easy to find and a bit shabby but still Divine! My mother always took out of town guests to see it!
ReplyDeleteFox Theatre bathroom needs more lighting. I love the Tremont bathroom & the Seattle restaurant on the vote page.
ReplyDeleteI'd go for the first and last images ... but definitely the first for elegance.
ReplyDeleteTremont by far!!

I work for the owner of the Tremont and was fortunate enough to be a part of the design team for the magnificient building. We have a 1920's inspired mural in the men's room and others in the front windows. Can't tell from the photos, but there is beaded wallpaper in the ladies. What a fun project!

Hmm the Tremont looks much like those at The Jefferson, which are always sparkling with white marble. They inspire confidence.
ReplyDeleteRadio City's men's lounge is truly a sight to behold. But the tobacco colour always strikes me as needing a freshening up.
So, it's dazzling white marble for me.
Looove the Tremont! I want one of those chandeliers in my bathroom.
ReplyDeletePublic restrooms are rarely pleasant experiences but these restrooms would be a lovely lovely place to "go" (sorry I just had to say it!)

The Tremont is so gorgeous - but of course I have to vote for The Tampa Theatre. That's my favorite place to see movies and concerts.

LOVE the Tremont!
ReplyDeleteI like the B'more one!
ReplyDeleteOne restaurant bathroom that stood out in my mind was at Can Can Brasserie in Richmond. Nothing overly fancy, but very pleasant!
They certainly aren't all pretty but given your penchant for museums, you should check this out, The Art Museum Toilet Museum of Art - an online museum documenting the facilities at worldwide museums http://www.artmuseumtoilet.org/home.asp.htm
ReplyDeleteCatherine... WOW! That is so much fun to know about! I checked the site and it's a font of information. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteWaldorf Astoria (NYC) is my fave
ReplyDeleteWell, those bathrooms are nice, but I am still and always a fan of the Waldorf Astoria's bathrooms off the lobby. Not exactly public, but they don't kick you out!
ReplyDeleteI trained my daughters to head there when Nature calls and they are in NYC.

Very cool! You'll have to let us know if you do this again!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
