More OKL Insanity

Last time I wrote about the OKL insanity, someone castigated me for being negative, but I think that I am being realistic. So let me preface this post by saying that I like OLK – a lot! I think they have some great things and I have purchased from them on several occasions and have been very pleased with my purchases.

And I love “Home, James!” and their look. Their range has some fabulous table top items that I covet.

However, you’re not likely to find me buying this little goodie.OKL5 There’s a little beach near my current house and I find beach glass there all of the time. I get out my little diamond-tipped Dremel and drill holes in the top of each piece. I then string them on some fishing line and hang them from a piece of driftwood to make wind chimes. And then I give them as gifts to friends and family.

OKL and Home, James! also offering these knives, of which I have dozens. The sale price is good and it is about what I charge when I sell them. Mine are identical to these, too! OKL 6 Let me know if you want any of these French Ivory knives, since they’re sold out here.

  2. Love this post. No, I'm not buying the beach glass, either. How is the painting going? Move in date?

  3. I'd much rather look at samples of paint and fabric than view OKL's exorbitant offer!

  4. Buying beach glass - that is unbelievable! Meg I am in your camp - walk along the beach, wind in your hair, sand in your toes, sun shining and surprise surprise - goodies are everywhere. Now I am off to see if I can buy a diamond tipped dremel 'downunder' to do what you do with your collections - Jan

You are right, OKL occassionally (infrequently) has a good value. Pay no attention to castigating comments. How's the new house coming?

  6. Dear Aunt Meggie: Let's see...If I compare all the beach glass I've found on my beach to the small amt in this jar, I estimate that I should be able to get several thousand dollars' for my collection!! WOO-HOO!!! - Miss M.A.

  7. I am afraid I agree with you and think your walk on the beach sounds heavenly. Remind me to nudge you for a wind chime made from beach glass when my birthday next rolls around. It sounds lovely and my guess is, it SOUNDS lovely.

  8. I totally agree with those that say OKL "occassionally" has something of interest at a reasonable price. After subscribing for 3 months, I cancelled because I saw very few items that I would term "tasteful" and the prices were way higher than they should have been.
However, as they say...to each his own.

  9. Agreed. On all counts. I love OKL...visit every day, and happily buy cool shit, and then it comes in the mail like my own little Brassy Christmas. I ask you, what could be better?

However, some of the bizarro nuggets they try to pass off as once-in-a-lifetime consumer goods?? Blows my little po-dunk mind. I saw the sea glass too! And the odd set of 80 year-old curtains that they throw up there for us to scramble over? At the rock bottom price of $439? Does. Not. Compute.

I'm with you sister. Preach on.

  10. Hi PTD - I love your blog!

I had a similar thought in Pottery Barn the other day when I saw a bowl filled broken tiles being sold for $12.50. Really?!! Puh-lease!

I've done ok with OKL except my last purchase of Frette sheets, which were a bargain price-wise, are pretty rough (like <200 thread count rough.) I know what Frette sheets are supposed to feel like so I think I may have ended up with a knock off set. Has anyone else encountered something like this from OKL?

  12. When I looked at OKL today, I remembered your posts on OKL insanity. I didn't know we Indians used our gods as garnishes! Someone with a reputation like Thomas Britt needs to do his homework.
