Snow Updates

It’s been a strange week, and almost everyone whom I’ve spoken to today has said that they are clueless as to which day of the week it is! The snowstorms started on Friday, February 5th, and since then, we’ve had about 50 inches of snow, which is unheard of around these parts!Sno-tals We are at almost 80 inches for the season, and with another storm due in at the beginning of the week, we are all at our wits end! Sno-tals 2 It was great to get my car out today, unburied for the second time in a week (total: 5 men, $70), and take a spin. Of course, I wanted to head right to the fabric store, but wiser thoughts prevailed and I went to get dog food instead. (Check out the zebra Dansko clogs in the background.)02-07-10 021 Just so you would have an idea of what it was like here during the storm yesterday, I made a little video of me walking with Connor around the neighbourhood. In the video, you can hear the wind howling and see all of the snow blowing. When I was out, the temperatures were hovering around the 20F mark. I am so bundled up, I look like one of those cartoons of a child in a snowsuit, arms sticking out.

I haven’t attempted to make another pig-adillo, but have been playing around with some of the fabrics I got during the break in the storms. I am piecing a lot of patterns together to make a blanket-y thing, and I will back it with some fleece. It will probably be for Connor, since it’s so imperfect.

  1. It's just crazy but I'm glad I was alive to see it, because I don't think we'll have another record year like this for a very long time! The last record for our area was the year my grandmother was born!!!

I love the picture of Connor with his pig-adillo! Too cute!

  2. Those graphics just reinforce how crazy this past week has been. Just amazing!

We finally saw a front loader over here yesterday. We were so excited to see the guy, we gave him a bag of muffins to thank him!

  3. Wow Meg! It was almost 'spooky' seeing the streets so empty of people, and so quiet. Must feel very strange to actually be there.
I could watch video of Conner playing with his peeps all day long!! Too cute.
    Stay warm!

  4. Thanks for the post. Not knowing what day it is just about sums up the feeling of the storm. Yesterday we finally had bands of shovelers coming through the neighborhood so now I know the going rate. (We're out in Columbia.)

  5. It's totally crazy. Someone pointed out that 30% of DC's snow tends to come from this point and on in the winter. Scary thought.

By the way, I was reading the Elle Decor article about Baltimore this morning and kept thinking "they better have a quote from Meg" the whole time...until I got to your quote. :)

  6. Loved the video, Meg. I guess it's only dogs that have fun in the snow these days. Baltimore's snow totals just amaze us up here. All of Boston closed down at noon on Thurs. for our blizzard and IT NEVER MATERIALIZED! Just a few flakes and some wind. So happy it never made it here. We're concerned about something coming in on Monday. Meanwhile, my best for a Happy Valentine's Day.

  7. That was fun, Meg! Well, fun for me to see but probably not "fun" in the conventional sense for you! It's 50 degrees here (and very grey at 8:45 am). Wish I could send you some of our "warmth".

  10. I had no idea that Baltimore got so much more than DC - I'll stop complaining.

  11. Great video. Connor is a terrific lead, and it's quite strange seeing a completely silent city with no cars. Glad you got out today and restocked. Hard to believe you have more snow coming. Perhaps you should flee to the northern sunbelt.

  12. Wow, your pictures are amazing! I grew up in Iowa and experienced many snowstorms with lots of snow but we had the snow equipment to move it out. I live in Dallas now and we had fun with our 12" snowfall yesterday.

How can I send you an email with a photo?
