Bling It

I had dinner with pal David this evening, and reminded him that I wanted to look at some fun crystals for my new chandelier while I was at his workshop. He pulled out two huge tubs of crystals and told me to take what I wanted/needed. So I grabbed a couple of hands full of crystals, not even bothering to count out how many I needed (17). I got a bunch of baguette shaped ones, that I will hang from each arm, and some octagonal ones in strings that I will drape between the arms. The octagonal pieces range from about an inch to a half an inch, and are in graduated sizes. I found one extra long baguette that I might hang from the bottom center. I love the piece above… It looks like it could be an earring, doesn’t it? Might be heavy though.I think this will be a project for the long weekend. And if I need more, it’s not like David’s short on crystals!  Thanks, pal!

  1. Looking forward to seeing the finished article. Your recent day out, with the wonderful lavender cocktails looked magnificent. Not a nice return home though. What did Connor do - was he badly hurt? Poor guy xxx

  4. Ooh -- fun! I changed out all the glass blobs on my new, midrange priced fixtures in my master bath immediately and replaced them with lead crystal bling to make them a little more unique and vintage looking. I ordered new crystals from an online replacement parts dealer, but what you've found at your friend's shop seems to have an authentic patina and character. Lucky you! Please post pictures when you're finished!

  5. Hi Meg, Poor Connor--that separation anxiety thing does not seem to be resolving itself in a favorable manner. I love designing crystal chandeliers and fitting the crystals--you must get a really, really good pair of small bottle nosed pliers and the task will be much easier--the results infinitely better. Have fun. Mary

    1. I just ordered something called Composure. Halas uses it and it seems to work for him.

  8. I always wanted to string a few chandelier crystals on ribbons and put them on the Christmas tree. [I even had the crystals once, but it was a project that never quite got started...] If you do it, you have to post a tutorial.

    2. I did this! 2mm red satin ribbon, but I used the little hooks too, because they dangled better. Looks very pretty, especially by firelight.

  10. We hang 100+ old crystals on our Christmas tree. They are all from old family fixtures, so mean a lot to us. I tie gold bows to some, and other simply hang from brass hooks and look so pretty in the sunlight and with the clear lights hitting them at night.

    Hugs to Connor.
