London Calling

I decided I needed to get the hell out of Dodge for a little while, so I booked a trip back to the UK. I know that some people might think I am stuck in a rut always going to the UK, but I miss my friends there, and Andy, my former housemate.  I haven’t been back for a few years, and when I heard that Andy’s oldest had just turned 13, I knew that I wanted to get over there sooner rather than later.1D 082With the Olympics taking place in the UK this summer, I figured I wouldn’t be able to travel for a good chunk of time, so I thought that there’s no time like the present… meaning I leave in two weeks. For part of the time, I will be in London, and then I will make my way down to Wales.3d 009I am hoping to meet up with some blogging buddies in both places, including Man of Mode, House of Beauty & Culture, Rose C’est La Vie, Yonks, and others.

I hope to get a chance to go back to the place where I worked in Wales, the stunning St. Donat’s Castle.aerial1 I lost all of my hundreds of images of that place when my computer was stolen soon after I moved back to the States. aerial2It’s private, but I think I can probably get permission to spend a little time there.

I am gathering lists of places I want to visit and people I want to meet, but would love your suggestions to add to the mix.3d 020 I am not sure where I am staying in London, as we’re still working out the Wales dates, so I haven’ booked a place.6d 006

Please tell me where to go and who to meet!

  2. I will never tire of visiting England. We had a fabulous vacation this past September that included Dingle, Ireland, Pembrokeshire, Wales and London. We stayed at a self catering converted barn in Llanrhian, Pembrokeshire. Their website is www.mountainhallcottages.co.uk It is located near the coastal path if you like to walk. It is also within walking distance to Porthgain where you can enjoy a pint as well as a good meal. We also bused to St. Davids and Tenby.
    Have a great day

  4. Meg,
Longtime lurker here...love your blog. You've helped me to enjoy Baltimore since I moved here. Last year I went to London (I love the UK). I stayed at the Mornington Hotel near Hyde Park. Recently renovated, a couple of blocks from the tube, short walk from Paddington Station if you take the train from the airport to the city, reasonably priced. I loved it.

  6. I'm sooo jealous. My favorite city in the world......As far as places to stay in town, my favorite, Miller's Residence, was sold off to develop as condominiums. The next best place would have to be Hazlitts..(a bit pricey, but fun for a night or two). No matter where you stay, it will be fabulous!...k

  11. Why not jump on a train, in about an hour you can be in Kent or Sussex. I'm sure you know Brighton, what about Lewes and Charleston Farmhouse? Or Margate with the new sensational Turner Contemporary and the funky Old Town? For accommodation advice, try Alastair Sawday Guides.

  12. Meg,

I'm pea green with envy! Have fun, and if you have a chance, visit Labour & Wait. I ogle their wares from afar, but so far they don't ship to America.

  13. Seconding one of the anonymous commenters, I highly recommend a trip to Lewes. It's an easy train journey from Victoria and well worth a visit.

Looking forward to seeing you over here and catching up.
