Several years ago, I wrote about the Elephant Family charity in the UK. They are dedicated to raising awareness about wild and captive Asian elephants. At that point, they had a parade of topiary elephants around the UK.
From May to July 2010, Elephant Family will be placing 250 life-size baby elephants around London. Each elephant has been painted by an artist and reflect each artists’ sensibility and vision. For more information on the Elephant Parade 2010, click here. Designer, Diane von Furstenburg shows a model of her elephant. I wish I could be in London to see this elephant parade!
Oh I love this...

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi is another wonderful organization that rescues elephants (and rhinos). You can "adopt" a baby elephant there and get updates. And there's an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee, as well.
ReplyDeleteI know you did a little montage of the circus elephants parading through Charm City a few weeks ago, and while it looks sweet, circuses are notoriously abusive places for animals. They should be outlawed. Just like rodeos. And "crush videos" (yeah, thanks, Supreme Court), and on and on. Humans are capable of so much cruelty, it's staggering.
I saw the elephants AND donkeys in DC and the fish in Baltimore but it sure would be fun to take a week and see all the London pachyderms.
ReplyDeleteBet that was a show not to be forgotten! (Get it? Elephant humor!)
