Easter Hedgehog

My assignment for Easter lunch at my sister’s house was to bring the Easter Hedgehog! So, I started the process on Saturday evening, mixing the cream cheese and cheddar cheese with Old Bay, by hand.Seriously, I can not tell you how revolted I am mixing this by hand, but it takes about two minutes to do it, rather than mixing it in the Cuisinart. Once everything was mixed, I put it all on a plate and started forming the hedgehog. The one issue I had with a lot of the pictures of the cheese-hog, was that most people didn’t have a clue what a hedgehog looked like, and many of them had pig faces with snouts and big floppy ears. Unlike a hedgehog.I spent about an hour strategically placing the sliced almonds on the hedgehog, all whilst watching a movie on the computer. I found two of the almonds that had browned a bit more than the others and used them for ears. I used dried currants for the eyes and nose.

I chilled the cheese overnight and before I left for my sister’s house, I garnished it with a chiffonade of lettuce to resemble grass. I am not the only creative one in the family though! My nieces all showed off their creative sides with cupcakes,

and an amazing recreation of a PEEP in cake form!I hope that whatever you did, you had a great day!

  5. I'm so impressed by your hedgehog, as well as the cake. I hope you 'pinned' it. In my family, my sister traditionally leads the kids (now 16 and in their 20s) in building a pineapple turkey (a lot of red licorice is somehow involved). Maybe we should change our medium to cream cheese. Happy spring days!

  6. Cute hedgehog. I hate mixing things by hand too. I have discovered the joy of latex gloves for this. It is great for mixing ground meats for meatloaf etc. It is so much less gross!

  8. Oh, he was so cute--did you guys eat him all up? Yes, I had a great day, also. Mary

  9. Love the hedgehog! I always do a lamb cake for Easter.

I'm thinking your hedgehog would be adorable as a cheese appetizer, too!

    Belated Happy Easter. Best, Kate

  10. Oh how funny - I was so enthralled with the picture of the finished hedgehog, I skipped over your explanation that it IS a cheese ball! In any case, let me say how cute it would be as a cake, too! : )

    1. Kari.... I am pretty sure it's just cream cheese and shredded cheddar. I think I googled cheese hedgehog and found something. Honestly, I can't remember.
