In Baltimore, everything is connected. For example, my good friend Tracey has a son who attends a pre-school at a place called Cedarcroft School which was founded by one of my mother’s oldest friends, and I am talking a 70+ years long friendship here. Tracey told me that Cedarcroft was doing a fundraiser, and they were auctioning off chairs that friends of the school had decorated, and she asked me to decorate a chair for the school. Of course, I said yes, and got to thinking about what I’d do.I checked my stash of fabrics, and then decided to make a very girly chair from some Lilly Pulitzer fabric that I have. I used the Bimini print in dandelion linen. Then I found some huge lime green rickrack to trim the space between the cushion and the skirt. Next, I took some of the ribbon that I’d picked up at the Bosom Buddy handbag sale a few weeks ago, and put it on the back of the chair. I used a pale pink and yellow harlequin print on the sides, and a hot pink and white stripe on the back. The chair is very small, fit for a child, so it didn’t take a lot of materials… But it did take a lot of hot glue!

So pretty and whimsical--I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat is really cute. Did you upholster the seat and then make the skirt or is it one piece?
ReplyDeleteIn capital letters--ADORABLE!!!
ReplyDeleteadorable
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea for a fundraiser and your creation is whimsical and fun!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of auctioning off decorated chairs. This one ought to fetch a nice amount for the school. It's adorable!
ReplyDeleteYou have such fun. Love, love the fabric and the finished chair.
ReplyDeleteWould love some of that fabric for a skirt since most of my vintage Lillys are somehow shrinking. Wish I could be there to bid.
I have a fear of using glue of any kind for a furniture project. Doesn't it dry up and things fall off with time and use? I mean, it's totally cute - not taking anything away from the cuteness - but does hot glue really stand up to wear and tear?
ReplyDeleteMarcheline... hopefully, this is going to be used as a decorative element. And it's got TONS of hot glue holding it all together.
ReplyDeleteHi Meg, The chair is fanciful--reminds me of Bloomsbury. Love at first sight. Be well. Mary
