When I moved, I left my disgusting old trashcan behind. So when I saw this one, I thought that it’s exactly the type of garbage can I should have at the new house. What do you think?
Unfortunately, it’s £110 and is found through Rockett St. George, a British company, so it doesn’t look like I’ll be chucking my trash in it any time soon.
However… I am a clever gal and with some fypon architectural details and a slap of paint, I could whip one up on my own!
It would be so easy to make one for your house! And then, you could make your fortune doing custom orders!
ReplyDeleteGo for it Meg! There's nothing like a challenge in my mind.
ReplyDeleteLove it. Do it. Post the pic! Great color combination.
ReplyDeleteI love the concept and would place an order with you right now for one for me--but Mr. Jones is a trash-aholic: he would rather have trash than dinner. So I keep his delicacies far removed from his nose.
ReplyDeleteI think the handles are interesting an perhaps useful, but I'd be worried that the finial would poke a hole in the wall every time I opened it.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the cutest articles I've seen in a while. I'm quoting it on the Union Square Online blog while encouraging more Southwest Baltimore residents to visit your blog. Your page is one of my favorite sites!
ReplyDeleteDear Auntie Meg: That trashcan looks so "you"!! I don't know how you find such great things, but kudos to you for doing so.
ReplyDeleteIt's great reading about what you're doing w/the new casa. Hope to see it & you soon!!

Cute shop, hadn't heard of it before.
ReplyDeleteYou could so easily make one for yourself! Cute idea. Let us know what you come up with.
ReplyDeleteHysterical and so smart! Please do make one... or 2 or 3... You could sell them on your blog and make a buck!
ReplyDeleteLove the unexpectedness....
Cute. I know you could totally rock something out just as good.
ReplyDeleteA beauty but it's so cute that I'd be afraid of someone stealing it.

Honestly, I'm a little surprised that you like it, and I'm also somewhat surprised by the positive comments by your readers.
ReplyDeleteIt's a trash can. Do you really want a trash can that looks rather pretentious and grandiose?
It makes me think of decorative switch plates. I usually prefer that utilitarian items blend into the background and not call attention to themselves.
Meg, I love your blog, and I think you have a high taste level.
But I part with you on the trash can.
I am so stealing this idea. Already been searching my basement for bits of old hardware and a finial that I'm sure I have somewhere. This would look so much better outside my house than the city-provided rubbermaid thing with the rock on top to stop the lid from blowing off. Since most people around here leave their garbage bins outside the front of their houses 24/7 it would be nice to have something that fits in with look of the neighborhood. My concern is not that someone would steal it but that it would get knocked about quite a bit by the garbage collectors. It would need to be built to withstand some rough handling. Thanks for the idea. Love it. I had been thinking of purchasing several smaller trash cans that would be easier to bring indoors and carry outside when full as I have problems with my hands/arms/back these days but I hope I can put your fabulous trash can idea into practice somehow. That way I can just leave it in front of my house all the time and it won't look so (pardon the pun) trashy.
ReplyDeleteBeware the gadgety trash pail. I spent some bucks on a retro red can, and now the lid-lifting mechanism has malfunctioned and the lid slams shut instead of softly closing (one of the big selling points in the advertising). Methinks if you are going to drop big dough on a trash can, it should be completely manual with no moving parts (except maybe a flap door on a hinge), since they seem to all break at some point.
ReplyDeleteI can see how you were tempted by this particular design, though - very cute!
