The moon is full this week and when I saw it last night, shining over the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River, it reminded me of the wonderful song, Moon River, sung by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
Wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
Waiting 'round the bend,
My huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me.
Although the Patapsco River doesn’t quite have the same romance as Tiffany’s, a moon like this is always gorgeous, no matter where you see it shining.
I just came in from a short errand with my daughter and, driving along, both of us said at the same time "Look at the moon!". Low and full and partially hidden behind wispy clouds. It even glowed a little gold courtesy of our So Cal smog. Beautiful and eerie all at once.
ReplyDeleteAudrey's is the best version. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteI sat in the back garden tonight with the dogs, all three of us staring up at that moon.
I will be humming all day Meg, xv.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful photo and a great song.
ReplyDeleteHasn't the moon been just fabulous? We've been enjoying it here too :-)
ReplyDeleteThe BatT soundtrack is one of my faves although it doesn't have Audrey's version like the movie.
ReplyDeleteI love a full moon on water. Always drawn to art that depicts it.
The full moon has such meaning and lore behind it. It is always a wonder to see!
ReplyDeleteMEG-

I love that song. it really makes you think of so many things when you hear it.
ReplyDeleteI just saw a documentary on Johnny Mercer on Turner Classics the other night; it was really fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI love that song Meg. I had to sing it for a choral competition in middle school and ever since I have been enamored! And what a nice picture to accompany.
ReplyDeleteI just learned that Johnny Mercer wrote Moon River, among other classic songs.
ReplyDeleteNow I have to admit that I learned it by watching Turner Classic Movies when I should have been doing dishes. They're featuring his work this week; I didn't realize what a prolific and wonderful writer and musician he was.
