A Russian woman who had been denied French citizenship hurled a cuppa tea at the painting of Mona Lisa at the Louvre in Paris over the weekend. Somehow, I don't think this will help her citizenship bid.
Luckily, Mona's well-protected and is surrounded by bullet-proof glass. For many tourists visiting the Louvre, Mona Lisa is the only thing they're interested in seeing in a huge museum full of uncountable treasures. Perhaps they should place the painting in the cafeteria or the gift shop so visitors can just stop at one central location.
WOW_ hadn't heard that but am totally laughing at the idea of the Mona Lisa in the caf.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I just don't see citizenship coming her way too soon.
ReplyDeleteThings just aren't what the use to be- If ML can't get respect- nothing is sacred. la
ReplyDeletesounds like it's already in the cafe ... what with the cup of tea and all....
ReplyDeleteWow that must have been one angry woman.
ReplyDeleteNY Times had an interesting article last week: the writer observed people walking through the Louvre, and how much time they spent looking at the art. (Not much)

Well, the good thing for ML is that we know she took the teabagging with a smile.
ReplyDeleteThere was no motherly love there.
ReplyDeleteLove your humor!
Why must these disgruntled people take it out on
ReplyDeleteMona? it isn't the first time that she's been vandalised.
Yeah, I believe Mona should always be upheld and protected. She's really old-aging-ha,ha,ha. No, on a serious note; she is authentic and will never go out of style.
ReplyDeleteWith all the security in the Louvre - how did she carry a cup of tea all that way?
ReplyDeleteThe first time I was in Paris, I had 3 days, actually 2. We ran through the Louvre and hit the highlights - ML (disappointing), Winged Victory (awe inspiring) and the grand gallerie. And the bookstore. So, yes, ML could be cozy closer to the book store. But, I knew I'd be back and on later trips, I was able to spend more time in the rest of the museum.
I've actually spent time thinking about how art can bring out violent action in the mentally ill. Mona has been attacked before. The Pieta. That compulsion to destroy the created/creative. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteSomewhere in Russia there must be some warehouse full of old Stalin statues. Send her back there and tell her "Have a blast."
Oh dear... temper, temper!
ReplyDeleteToo funny! I can't imagine a French person ever throwing a cuppa tea.....it would have been espresso.(kidding!)
ReplyDeleteMona Lisa....big letdown once you stand in front of it...leastways it was for me. Is leastways a word? If I had only one day in Paris my museum choice would be d'Orsay hands down.
ReplyDeleteOnward.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
