While the one I talked about was the classic Etienne Turgot version, Restoration Hardware's version is from Letts, Son & Co. and is from the late 1800's, just before the Eiffel Tour was built. The Turgot version is circa 1739. And RH's version at more than $1800, including shipping, is much more expensive than the versions I featured here. However, RH's version comes framed.

W King Ambler carries many antique maps. Aren't they wonderful?
ReplyDeleteMeg- I received mine from one of your suggested sources- got one for a client and one to spare. It looks great- thanks for the find. G
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this post. This is one of those someday items. Always on the look out for.
ReplyDeleteand knowing these retail stores -it no doubt will be available for 1/2 price in a few months!
ReplyDeleteGiven the size of today's suburban houses, I think Belgian design would be a great way to fill those echoing spaces. My favourite Vervoordt sofa is endlessly long.
ReplyDeleteI want an old Parisian map for my living room. This one is too big for my space, but I still love looking at them.
ReplyDeleteLove this feature. I think framed maps- especially those with some personal connection- are fabulous.

Love maps. Period.
ReplyDeleteI do love Paris - but my heart belongs to London! I saw a map of London on Mrs. Howard's website - have you ever seen where this might be available?
ReplyDeleteMy map is of Rome! but I really lust after the RH one. I'll wait for the discount version sure to turn up on Nextag one day. I hope.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is interested I have a great circa 1840 map of Paris that is as large as the one in Restoration Hardware 85" x 59" or can be made smaller to your custom size.
ReplyDeleteI got in on the friends and family 20% off sale and basically got it minus tax and shipping. I am so impressed with it. I got the biggest one, and it is over my mahogany buffet in the dining room. I could not be happier with it, It's in a distressed frame that looks tortoise shell in the daytime and has gold highlights at night. I never get tired of looking at it. A friend knew how much I wanted it and she said "why not buy that for yourself for Christmas". I did. I'm not sorry. It is really stunning.
