Nosey

One of the things that’s always mystified me about my dogs, Frank, my first yellow lab, and now Connor, is how they love to stick their noses into my shoes!

So when I looked down from my desk this evening and saw that Connor had his nose in my boot, all the way up to his eyes, I wondered why on earth he does that!

  8. My Dog , Weaver the 15 year old Welsh terrier does this although not with his nose in them- He sleeps on my shoes which looks terribly lumpy and and uncomfortable- I move the shoes to make him more comfy and bang right back on them-

  9. Meg,
This made me laugh, but I do think it's rooted in love, like he can't get enough of you or something? My dog puts her head on my slippers like a pillow if I leave them lying around- now I am curious if she smells them too!

Years ago we had cats and one of them would pounce on socks the mitute we took them off and roll around on them- it was like cat-nip for him...so weird!

  10. It isn't just dogs ..... cats do it too. My cat Chaucer has always loved to snooze with his nose in a shoe, albeit usually a leather shoe. But I'm sure it has something to do with the "fragrance" emitted by the recently worn shoe.

  11. I am, not even reading the other comments! I KNOW the answer!

Your smell! Dogs love their beloved owners smell!

in our boots and shoes it is concentrated!

He loves you! Whenever we travel (becoming less and less as we get older; we miss our pets!) we leave a few "dirty clothes" on the dogs' beds; and the cats' beds!

    It makes them comfortable.....!!

Huge compliment is your dog burying his nose in your boot! Concentrated scent!

I hope you can spread this widely! Our pets love our scents! And dogs sense of smell is thousands of times what ours is!

I adore you blog and your dog!

  12. Now I read the comments! They are from young people who have figured this out by themselves!

    Brilliant!

    Honestly; this is the reason!
No greater compliment will you receive!

Each of us has a distinct and different scent! (this is how animals know their young; if separated! ) I have seen our chickens do this! they do it by sound! birds cannot smell!)

But dogs and cats........no fooling them!

If they love you; they find the concentrated smell of you and stick their noses!

Just say, Thank you!! And then all of you pat yourselves on the back for being such beloved owners! This is the truth!!

  13. It's socks with our Wheaten (though he's still a puppy). He'll snatch a sock before it even hits the floor, take it into his crate and wiggle his nose into the top of it!

  14. My cat huffs my shoes, too. :)

  15. My cat does it too! He also likes to wipe his face with our socks. It is so funny how he holds them with his front paws while lying on his back. His favorite socks those that just came back from running, the stinkier the better :))
