One of the questions I get about the blog is how do I find the time to blog five times a week. The answer increasingly is that I really don’t. I am chair of the board of the Baltimore Architecture Foundation, and on the board of the AIA Baltimore Chapter. I also serve on the development committee for the Maryland SPCA, and on a 100th Anniversary Committee for the Baltimore Museum of Art. In addition, I work full-time, with ever-growing responsibilities as Director of Development of MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society’s foundation. I also write a blog for them, MedChi Archives, and a blog for Halcyon House Antiques. Beginning today, I am cutting back to three days a week. The schedule will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday, posting the night before. So many times, I am sitting at my desk at 11:00 p.m. or midnight, just trying to find something to write about. I love blogging but know that if I take a hiatus for the summer, I will never come back to it. I’ve been doing this for eight years, and have written more than 2,100 posts to date. Connor’s gotten so old that it takes more time to care for him – especially during these summer storms.
I am confident that I will keep blogging and I hope that you will continue to read Pigtown*Design! Thank you so much!
Absolutely sticking around to read you. I'm blogging 3 times/week too, and I think it's a great schedule:).
ReplyDeleteThanks! I like having a schedule, and 3x a week seems to be good.
DeleteI completely understand! I have fallen to one (sometimes two) posts a week - and even that's tough sometimes!
ReplyDeleteIt's the schedule that is important to me, so I think the 3x will work.
DeleteYou and everyone! No guilt. It's supposed to be fun not pressure!!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to just stop cold like a lot of others have done, but it was becoming a chore.
DeleteJust please don't stop. We would really miss you!
ReplyDeleteHello Meg, I for one could never figure out how you could do so much and publish so much. I will eagerly look forward to whatever blogging schedule that will keep you energized.
ReplyDelete--JIm
There were other things that I love, like reading, that took a back seat to the blog. I need to get back in balance.
DeleteI always thought you were so disciplined but incredible with your schedule! We will take anything you give us but agree a small break could lead to something permanent so please don't go there!
ReplyDeleteI know myself, and I know if I take a break, I will just stop.
DeleteGlad to hear you'll still be blogging. Best of luck in all your endeavours.
ReplyDeleteI'll always read Pigtown Design no matter how many times/week you publish.
ReplyDeleteLinda, I appreciate that!
DeleteDear Miss Meg: You are truly a superwoman. Thanks for all the enjoyable posts over the past eight years. (How could it be eight years already?? Where has the time gone??) -- Miss M.A.
ReplyDeleteHa! You know me... hardly a superwoman. More like a sloth!
DeleteMeg--All your experiences and activities are what contribute to making your blog so interesting and unique! I really enjoy learning about architecture, Baltimore, design, life in the UK, and the other topics you blog about.I hope you find the right balance to live the busy life you do, and to keep sharing your perspective with your blog readers on a regular, if less demanding, schedule. Thanks for all the fascinating posts!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteI will miss reading you daily, but I totally understand. I will continue to be a faithful--albeit most often silent reader. Thanks for all your posts, Meg.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Maurie!
DeleteMeg, We love your posts...even if you decide to do one once a week, I will look forward to the gems you present to us! Regards, Richard
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteLove your blogs, so will be happy to read them whenever you post! I was nice that they were daily, but unnecessary, a good read is a good read whenver it comes about.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I think that 3x a week will be a good compromise.
DeleteMeg, you're right, if you took a short break from writing this blog you wouldn't ever get back to it! I would dearly miss reading all that you have to say!!
ReplyDeleteThree times a week IS ample.
Linda.
Thanks! I know if I took a break, it would be forever.
DeleteThe quality of your subject matter and your writing is so worthwhile that I will read and appreciate whatever you can write. Take care of dear Conner and yourself.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. Connor's becoming quite a worry recently.
DeleteI'm glad you are continuing. It's one my fun reads each day--Tony
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that, Tony!
DeleteYour blog is one of my favorites and I can always rely on something interesting. My daughters and I enjoy the listings of homes in the UK and pick which one we are going to "buy". I'm glad you'll have more time to love on Conner. I have two Newfies and know how much time they take. Enjoy your reduced blogging - it's well deserved.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Connor's 13 now and it starting to quickly show his age.
Delete3x a week will be good - I would miss your blog so much if you stopped since it's one of the few great blogs I continue to read. I feel fortunate we were able to meet in real life! Hope the storms are at a minimum for the remainder of the summer! xo
ReplyDeleteI agree... it's so many of the people whom I have met that has made the blogging such fun, and I don't want to lose that!
DeleteI will look forward to anything you have posted at any time that suits you. Best wishes to you and Connor.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteEver since I saw you on Nate Berkus' show, I've been reading your blog. Thank you for all the work you put into each post. I don't blog but realize it's a lot of work and like the others who read your blog, we do appreciate it. Three times a week I'll look forward to reading your posts and by the way Connor is still a cute pup at 13. Just adorable.

Nate seems like a lifetime ago!
DeleteI look at the old picture of Connor, and that one was on my very first post, and see how white he's gotten.
Enjoy some free time Meg! I look forward reading the many interesting topics, and hearing about Connor's escapades. Three times a week is better than no times. I'm glad Pigtown exists!
ReplyDeleteConnor got out twice last week, and he just trots down the lane to his dog-walker's house. But it's scared me to death to hear the door slam! He's just hating these storms that have been blowing through, and last night was a real nightmare.
DeleteThree days is better than none. Thank you for your thoughtful and inspiring blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteHi Meg, Although I will greatly miss your fantastic daily posts, I know that life brings things that change priorities. Connor and work and all the other endeavors that you are involved with need to move up to first place. I will miss my daily inspiration--but three days is good, too.
ReplyDeletexoxoxoxoxo Mary
I think that the 3x schedule will free up enough time to do some of the things I love.
DeleteI only "know" you through your blog and can't remember how I found you, but I have long appreciated your point of view. I like it that you try to answer comments. I like your classical and educated perspective which is more rare these days. People have often told me I should blog and I don't know I could ever actually produce something that regularly, so I also like and admire your consistent effort. Thanks, Meg, and I'll look forward to 3x per week! Sure do hope you can find a way to continue. (If you ever want a "Heartland Blog Assistant," I'm willing!
ReplyDeletewill read whatever + whenever you post + take care of yourself + Connor. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
ReplyDeleteThanks, Peggy! You've been such a great supporter and commenter!
DeleteOh gosh Meg, everyone knows I blog about once a week and don't post just to put something up quickly....we are here for you whenever you want!!

Meg,
ReplyDeleteDo what you need to do.....and when you feel you have something you'd like to share, we'll be there to read it. Take good care of you and Conner, the priorities. Regards, Angela Muller
Thanks, Angela. I appreciate that.
DeleteYour posts are always so interesting, and I look forward to reading them whenever you post! Sweet pictures of Connor, xo, N.G.
ReplyDeleteAw, shucks, Nina! Thanks!
DeleteI am an avid lurker and blogging procrastinator, I stand in awe at your schedule. Please keep blogging at a pace you can enjoy! I will keep on reading.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading. I think this schedule will be easier.
DeleteAs so many others have said - just keep doing it - you are part of our lives - but also so many other lives with all your other commitments. You were an inspiration when I began and you will continue to be - but putting pressure on yourself - just for us - we will take whatever you can manage. Kindest
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jan!
DeleteYou've blogged with more consistency that anyone else in my feed and for the longest. It doesn't matter if you post once a week or once each day, I'll be reading. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeannine. It's been such fun to do this, and an amazing experience.
DeleteWhen you say "trying to find something to blog about" I think we would be content with ... It rained so much today and then you post a few pictures of Baltimore buildings in the rain or a puddle reflecting a statute... what ever you see saw that day! I visit your musing for a perspective, of stuff , going on in your fair city. So many of us I suppose have never been to Baltimore, have never seen the beauty of the city from an insiders perspective. Even the groups you are involved with, say they sell acute tote bag and you post a picture of it and tell us how to order one -- that kind of stuff would be fun, as it may encourage your readers to get as involved with their community as you are! My summer has been couched with the thought I may be moving to another city ---so I am currently downsizing -- " I am not bringing this with me" has be my mantra as I go through my house. Your page gives me inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your great comments. I do a little of the "picture of the day" on Instagram. I am doing a feature called #thisisBaltimore. There are so many platforms to use now, and while blogging is one, others are growing. It remains to be seen in which direction I move.
DeleteOf course we'll still be here, and still be reading! Also - EVERYONE gets blog-sloggy in the summertime, it's not just you. Many blogs "shut down" only to reopen when the cool breezes of fall arrive. Don't apologize for taking the time you need to live your life. We love you and this blog, and we will be happy to enjoy whatever you post!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the time you dedicate to blogging. Blogs are best when the author does not feel pressured to post, so you should take all the time you need to get into a rhythm that fits your busy schedule.
ReplyDeleteJust so you know; I appreciate and read every single word you write in your blog!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your "oh so interesting" posts!!!
There are so many great new bloggers.......I am thinking about "fading: stage left"!!
I truly think there are so many more talented people blogging than I!
You are one of "those"!
I hope you will continue.....I really love your blog!
