Makes Me Happy!

This bitter cold weather combined with the recent snow just makes me want to take to my bed and sleep, so I am always looking for things that make me HAPPY!

I’ve mentioned a number of times how essential having fresh flowers is to me, and the freesia that I got at Trader Joe’s last week are going a long way towards cheering me up.freesiasTheir scent is amazing, and I can smell it throughout the house.freesias2 It’s a nice peppery-sweet sort of smell.

Of course, Connor makes me happy. This is him sitting outside in the 7* temperature and the snow! It makes ME cold to have him do this!image

When I walk Connor, I try and listen to music so I can keep up a good pace. I have a selection of tunes called “Walk” that all have a good steady beat. My newest favourite is Pharrell Williams’ HAPPY!

The only problem with this song is that I just want to break into dance when I listen to it!

What makes you HAPPY?

  1. My brother's puppy and watching him play with other dogs plus going through my books and putting them on shelves! I am a simple girl...:)

  2. Good coffee, a nice book, Pinotage wine, African sunsets, the smell of the soil after a storm…..
PS: Mr. Y can't stand hear that music anymore…. and I have put it on my "labor room music" track, and he doesn't know it!

  3. Bluebirds! The cold and snow has brought a flock to the bird feeders outside our kitchen window for two days now. Usually they don't hang around for more than 20 minutes. The males are so bright they almost glow against the snow.

    1. I trim the stems slightly each time I change the water, and that's not too frequently!

    1. To me, freesias are sort of a softer gardenia scent. Broader, if you understand.

  7. I adore freesias - they remind me of weddings. I was chosen to be a bridesmaid and had to go to a very posh shop for a dress fitting. It was the day Winton Churchill was buried and I was surreptitiously chewing gum as the grown-ups were pre-occupied. It fell out of my mouth while I was being fitted, and stuck to the hem of my dress. My mother was mortified. Whenever I smell freesias, I recall my cousin's wedding - and the fitting day - very clearly!

    1. What a hilarious story! I remember first smelling freesias at a wedding in Southport, England. Someone gave us a little bunch to wear on our dresses and I spent the whole wedding sniffing them.

  9. Your flowers look great. Unfortunately at this point, nothing can cheer me up except the arrival of spring. This weather sucks :-(

  10. Gotta love Connor! Our lab Beau will swim in frigid water (northern california) in the middle of winter. Your Connor is quite a handsome gentleman. I bet he is more gentlemanly than my crazy Beau!!
