The most depressing news I heard all weekend was that the groundhog in Pennsylvania saw its shadow, which means six more weeks of winter. I know that here in my little neck of the woods, we’re all about finished with the snow and slush, the salt encrusted cars, bitter cold temperatures, and the black ice.
The one saving grace is that the sun is setting at 5:30 p.m. That makes a huge difference!
Hi Meg, You hit upon the great feature of temperate climates--the late setting sun in the Summer, as late as 9:30-10:00. Of course, you have to pay for it in winter 3:30 sunsets, but even before the season's icy grip is released, you notice the later sun.

I lived in Wales, remember? I know from early sunsets and late sunrises, and vice versa!
DeleteHi Meg, Please send your winter weather over here to LA. We had a bit of rain yesterday evening and I cheered it on.

I wish I could!
Deletealthough this morning walking to work i noticed some spring flowers starting to push out of the ground - I think our warmish weather this weekend fooled them!
ReplyDeletePS -have you ever been to the Sloanes and Kenyon consignment shop in Bethesda? AMAZING! A junkers dream.
Oh, that's not going to end well!
Deleteok, we are in the middle of a bad drought out here in LA + send rain, snow, anything out here. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
ReplyDeleteWe would love to send it your way!
DeleteAccording to the forecasts, though, it seems like winter is just beginning!
ReplyDeleteWe dodged a bullet here today with literally no snow!
DeleteMeg, it is all about how you look at things -I was about 15 when I realized that six more weeks of winter was the same as six weeks until spring. Don't let the groundhog get you down- less than six weeks until spring! That said, this January has been difficult for me and am anxious for spring.
