I am working on a massive project for a friend, which will end up being a powerpoint presentation with 100+ slides and 400+ images, all of which needed some editing, so blog posts are pretty skimpy until I am finished.
Here’s a design aesthetic quiz, which clearly got me completely wrong. This is more my nightmare than my dream.
Let me know if was as off-base for you as it was for me!
That crack is whack. Mine could not be more wrong. It said my aesthetic was a mix of i-D magazine, Kanye West, and the Odd Future webstore, whatever those things are.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! That's pretty hysterical!
DeleteWhich Design Aesthetic Are You?
ReplyDeleteYou got: the interior of a Restoration Hardware.
Mine was actually fairly close, although my interior style is not contrived like I find Restoration Hardware to be.
You got: the interior of a Restoration Hardware. You are an old soul, wrapped up in an enigma, wrapped up in the trappings of the modern world. Like a leather trunk filled with worn maps and tea-stained letters from the Captain, you only get better with age. You prefer the charm of a bygone era, and you’ve never given up the dream of one day living inside of a grandiose library.
I could have almost dealt with that one. It's more like me.
DeleteWell, that was somewhat amusing. I came up with i-d magazine, Kanye West, and the Odd Future Webstore.
ReplyDeleteYIKES!
DeleteI got Interior of a Restoration Hardware, too. I don't know what the other potential choices were. But, this is probably as close are one could get using the design aesthetic of modern chain stores.
ReplyDeleteMark - I'd peg you as Antiques magazine!
DeleteI am afraid in my case it was spot on. Restoration Hardware and my entire bathrooms came from there, my sofa, bed and bedroom drapes and coverlet.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I have many antiques and things not from there.... But yours couldn't be more wrong
I was rather horrified!
DeleteI, too, got Restoration Hardware. But what were the choices? Hard to know if that's as close as they come. This quiz is meant for someone much younger than I (I'm 63) - didn't know most of those women/characters, nor the 90s music. Meg, that is not you, that's for sure. Fun to take, but I've seen more accurate ones. Cathy
ReplyDeleteI agree... i am the wrong demographic for this quiz. I will try and find a better one.
DeleteI got Marimekko meets Warhol...which isn't exactly what my house looks like but Marimekko and Warhol both make me happy so I can't really complain.
ReplyDeleteis that the 1970's?
DeletePottery Barn. Total Fail.
ReplyDeleteagree 100%
DeleteI'm not in the demographic for this quiz - too old, too much of a Gemini to choose a single option given what's offered.
ReplyDeleteWhen i got to the tattoo question, i was unhappy that there was not an option for "not on your bloody life".
DeleteTotally wrong but then the questions are ridiculous.
ReplyDeletei agree: first you need give me questions i understand and then i will answer.
DeleteWell, I guess great minds think alike: a walking embodiment of Pottery Barn meets a Pinterest search for the term “rustic.”
ReplyDeletewas it wrong for you, too?
DeleteVery wrong. In the new quiz, I found most of the rooms very cluttered, so I ended up with "modern." Not sure about that either!
DeleteUmmm -i got college dorm room? SERIOUSLY? Worst quiz ever -haha.
ReplyDeleteFunniest.thing.EVER!
DeleteI took it twice and got the same answer: a Marimekko pattern meets an Andy Warhol painting. I don't know if that necessarily describes me, but I really want to live in a house like that so maybe I should change things up?
ReplyDeleteSUCH a fun quiz!
Glad you liked it!
Deletenot a good test I got You are twee to a T(ea), what the h----does that mean. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
ReplyDeleteOhhhh. i think that's an insult.
DeleteOh, no, Peggy -- I got the same one you did! And I don't know what a "twee" is, either. But we're both interior designers, and I know you have great taste. Glad to be in good company! :-)
DeleteWell... it was Martha Stewart meets the Gap. At least it was accurate by saying I eschew frivolous décor and garish colors. Overall, its an odd little test, did not relate to the selections they offered. Thanks for posting though, always fun to take a quick quiz!
ReplyDeletethat might be a little more me!
DeleteGot me TOTALLY wrong. Pottery Barn meets Pinterest.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun.
Mary
i need to find a new quiz for us.
DeleteI got the Pottery Barn rustic thing, and that is absolute light years from me.
ReplyDeletechandelier made of twigs. not in this lifetime. although i once made a chandelier out of a tumbleweed as a joke.
DeleteI didn't get an answer because I hit a roadblock before I finished. Picking a pattern was easy--the plaid--but after that, I was at a loss. From the choices of women that I relate to, the only one I even recognized was Gillian Anderson; on the album cover issue, I didn't know if they were asking about the graphics or the music, and since I'm a total materialist who doesn't relate at all to metaphorical maunderings, the questions about my soul and what animal I'd come back as if I were reincarnated were meaningless to me. Also, I hate tattoos.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I love deviled eggs & plain old hot dogs with mustard--even, I imagine, hot dogs from IKEA--so at lunch time, I think I'll pull on an ancient Pendleton plaid jacket--sure it's snowing, but it's not that cold out--and walk over to the deli counter at the supermarket. I may be coldly analytical about aesthetic matters, but when it comes to food, I'm easy to please.
you crack me up!
DeleteI pass, I don't like that you have to sign in with facebook...bet you get a LOT of ads now!
ReplyDeleteDidn't realize that.
DeleteI have the aesthetic void of a college dorm room and I love to purchase items from Spenser's Gifts! What!? Really!? Please!
ReplyDeleteAngela Muller
OK, I gave in and did eeeny-meeny-miny-mo on the answers to the two questions for which I had none...and guess what? It was pretty darn accurate:
ReplyDeleteYou got: a Marimekko pattern meets an Andy Warhol painting.
Marimekko / Andy Warhol
I was quite happy with that!
I got: You got: a Wes Anderson movie.
ReplyDelete"Moonrise Kingdom" / American Empire
You are twee to a T(ea), and you probably didn’t even mind that lame pun because you are so sincere and pure of heart. You love vintage paperbacks, Francoise Hardy records, and cardigans. You are frequently glimpsed hiking up your knee socks, perfecting your already-exceptional thrift store-sifting skills, and practicing your cursive.
I don't know what a "twee" is, and I have no idea who Francoise Hardy is... My husband WISHES I had any thrift shopping skills (that means shopping at Macy's instead of Nieman Marcus, right?). But I DO love cardigans, old books, and practicing my cursive flourishes with my fountain pens.
I think the Pottery Barn/Pinterest thing was just mean!
Oh my. The only Pottery Barns I have been in are not open air market/shopping mall store fronts. They are in elegant locals ie. Park avenue in Winter Park Fl. tre chic, mucho dinero.
ReplyDeleteWeird. I got the same result. Are you sure this isn't a PB ad designed as a quiz?
ReplyDeleteI'm Martha Stewart and a Gap sweatshirt which isn't horrible but I had no idea who those nine chicks were and I'm allergic to eggs so I had to pick something that would kill me. So how right can that be?
