One of the things about the mid-Atlantic coast where I live is that we get all kinds of weather. After almost a month without rain, except for the derecho a few weeks ago, we are getting hammered with two storms this evening.I was at a board meeting downtown this evening and couldn’t leave the building because it was raining so hard, I’d have been soaked to the skin within seconds. When I got home, I saw numerous videos and pictures of the flooding. The water table is very high here, especially in the neighbourhoods surrounding the harbour, so when we get a lot of rain in a very short period of time, there’s nowhere for it to go.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the harbour…As I sit typing this, Connor’s on the shelf on my desk, right below me. He’s not happy. But the plants will be.
Wow, Meg, all we got were warnings and a huge lightening/ thunder storm with minimal rain about 10:00PM.
ReplyDeleteThen again, we're not a harbor town!
Hope you kept your power.

Jane...we had two storms blow through in three hours.
DeleteHere in london uk we have had rain most days thank goodness no flooding though .
ReplyDeleteMaude...i am getting lots of weather reports from friends in the UK.
DeleteI miss lightening/thunder storms + rain here in S. CA.(in NW Fla we had lots of both) but am blessed to have grand weather here all year long. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
ReplyDeletePeggy...i will send Connor out to you and your balmy weather.
DeletePoor Connor. He needs Jones to keep him company. Jones is not afraid of anything (except me when I'm mad at him) and thinks that his job is to defend the house against thunder and lightening. Hope that you guys dry out pretty soon. Mary
ReplyDeleteMary...We need a week of nice steady rain. We are at a serious deficit.
DeleteWe can put man on the moon but a city lacks the ability to pump the city streets free of water. This is an outrage-- the fundamental failure of a municipality to spend taxpayer dollars to benefit the populace. What a debacle. Nero
ReplyDeleteHigh water table+more than inch of the rain pounding down=flooding in the streets.
DeleteYou've had quite the dramatic summer weather wise, hope it now calms down. How's the new job ?
ReplyDeleteCannot believe my eyes... such extreme weather. Thinking of you all. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
