The first of September begins the meteorological season of autumn. Meteorological seasons are different from astrological seasons in that they adhere more closely to what most people’s perception of what our seasons are. Meteorological Autumn is September, October and November, while astronomical Autumn is late September through late December.
As we entered the first days of September, here in the mid-Atlantic the temperatures dropped into the 70’s during the days and the 50’s at night.
Yes, and it's been lovely, hasn't it?! I love having the windows open and the breeze blowing in....
ReplyDeleteIt's 100 degrees here and muggy and I keep thinking about soups and stews. I can't wait for our weather to change!
ReplyDeleteAnnie and CC... I have no doubt that it will heat up again here. We'll get more days in the upper 80's, but it's been a very cool summer overall. YAY!!!
ReplyDeleteHeavenly joys! Yes more summer days- but the momentary chill in the air is encouraging.la
ReplyDeleteOh, good! I was thinking, "nothing." And the boot storage system is sublime.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, am I the only one who thinks we haven't had enough summer to be moving into fall? I'm usually so inspired by those first brisk breezes and that smell that means the leaves will soon be blowing around my feet... but this year I just feel petulant!
ReplyDeletePerhaps it's a good thing that Hubby might soon be relocated from MA to CA... (Though I do feel inspired by that Welly rack!)

I've never heard that before... but I do agree that meteorlogical makes more sense to me and "feels" more correct. Although Sept in So Cal can be one of our hottest months no matter what season the calendar or scientists say it is!!
ReplyDeleteIt felt more like fall a month ago than it does right now!
I studied this picture very closely before deciding 'nothing', absolutely not one thing - from the non-chalance of the coats, to the upside down boots, to the stacks of hat - was wrong.
ReplyDeleteI dig fall and can't wait to break out all the togs: the quilted jackets/vests, cords, cable knit sweaters and wallabees.
Autumn here we come , no doubt, but I am kicking and screaming a little...xv
ReplyDeleteI agree, absolutely nothing! Love the pic. It's been a wonderfully cool summer here, and still I'm thrilled to see Fall arrive! Can't wait to start cooking up some soups!!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds absolutely perfect. This week in Holland? Rain, rain, rain and too much wind. Enjoy your fine weather!
ReplyDeleteThe drop in temperatures has been a great relief. I love having windows open and a/c units off. Plus, it's so much more fun to be outside in the yard gardening when sweat isn't dripping into my eyes. Of course, when that happens, I just visualize a sauna and try to be happy about it.
ReplyDeleteIt's been glorious sleeping with the windows open!
ReplyDeleteIt's ever so much more pleasant sleeping to the sound of crickets coming through an open window, instead of the sound of the neighbor's air conditioning unit coming through a closed one.
ReplyDeleteI agree! It's perfection. Still too early to feel much fall in the deep South, but the temperature is slightly less mercenary... we just might survive.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! Wonderful mix of things (and BOOKS).
Best,
Sanity Fair
What's wrong? It's too neat for a mud room! (In my house, anyway!)
ReplyDeletei'm gonna make my own journal
