As I was scanning the local city paper during lunch, a small display ad caught my eye:
June 19th is Wallis, Duchess of Windsor's 113th (or 114th) birthday and a group in Baltimore, her hometown, is celebrating with a party on Sunday, June 7th! Adele Corner House, the historic house where the party is being held, is on the street where the Duchess was born and is home to the Duchess of Windsor Museum in Baltimore.
The Duchess of Windsor Museum will beopen from noon until 5 p.m.; there will be walking tours of the Duchess's neighbourhood; and the birthday party begins at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 and benefit the local Animal Rescue. The invitation says to wear outrageous jewelry and as the ad says You'll never make the best-dressed list if you don't carry your dog with you! (although that won't work with Connor in my arms...)
oh that sounds like a lot of fun! too bad i'm busy that day :-(
ReplyDeleteStill fabulous at 113!
ReplyDeleteor 114! Depends on which date you're willing to go with!
ReplyDeleteCool!!!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds fabulous and I have just the perfect jewelry and dog!
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Just the other day, my mother was telling us her childhood memory of going to see the Duke and Duchess's train when it rolled through her little town in Florida (they were on the way to Palm Beach, no doubt). She remembers them waving to the crowd from the back of the train. I guess that's the closest any of my family has ever been to (ex) royalty. Hope you go to the party!
ReplyDeleteSR2... I possibly have the jewelry, but I don't have a portable pet!
ReplyDeleteKaren... Can you imagine that happening now? Maybe for HRH, but not "minor" royals.
ReplyDeleteI was so glad when Obama and Biden did the train trip down to DC. It was so incredible to watch them roll through Baltimore.
does it count if i carry my dog's fur with me? because while mona is too heavy to accessorize with, her fur is something i have to accesorize with, like it or not!
ReplyDeleteMaison21-- I have a plaque that a friend gave me for Christmas that says, "No outfit is complete without dog hair." Couldn't be more true for me.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun - please report back. xv
ReplyDeleteKathy and M21... true for me, too!
ReplyDeleteAll my black clothes + a cream/white dog = disaster!
I SWORE I would get a black lab for my next dog, but Nooooooo... I got another double coated English yellow lab.
You must go and report on it!! If I lived in Baltimore I'd be there in a heartbeat!
ReplyDeleteI was just going to forward you an email about a tour that's being done in conjunction with this.
ReplyDeleteAren't cats as fashionable as dogs? I adore cats and I bring it along with me everywhere I go. My mom thinks I'm trying hard to look like a pet-toting celeb. Still, I don't care. It's gonna be exciting to attend the duchess party. Wish I could be there.
ReplyDeleteOh, god, that's right, she was from Baltimore! I forgot.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you are already familiar with Lady Caroline Blackwood's book " The Last of the Duchess" - but it's worth an anniversary re-reading. Or a first reading, if you are not familiar with it.
Somehow, I think you should convince Connor to allow you to carry him about. Just for the party, you know. Think he'd understand?
ReplyDeleteKathleen... you jest! The only time I've even been able to remotely pick him up was when we both had carbon monoxide poisoning and he was passed out. i had to do a fireman's carry with him over my shoulder and then back down the stairs. not fun!
ReplyDeletePLEASE report back!
ReplyDeleteWhat a hoot...
Everyone carries their dog in Paris
Who knew?
how great is that ?!!!
ReplyDeletei think she may be right.
except for one small thing...
i always have my shit-zu with me, and i am still waiting to make the
'best dressed' list!
ha ha
The Duchess grew up in Baltimore, but she was born in Blue Ridge Summit, PA, a vacation community for wealthy Baltimoreans.
