Happy First Day of Autumn

Fall arrived today at 11:44:16 EDT on the Autumn Equinox. I love the fall and I hate the fall. The days draw in, but the weather is crisp and clear. It's a slippery slope towards winter, but I can finally begin wearing my beloved cashmere sweaters again. Thanksgiving and Christmas are wonderful and I love the planning and parties that go along with them, but then it's the depths of winter! Do you love or hate the fall? Do you even have seasons where you are?

  1. fall is my favorite season! I just wish it was more 'fallish' here like back home in Pittsburgh -or in new england. It seems to change to winter here more abruptly!

  2. I love Fall. I was working on a post about my love for it, but due to my adult ADD, didn't get to it yet. :-)

I love the change of the seasons being from the Midwest, but I love it here in Delaware because the weather isn't usually as drastic as Chicago, i.e., winter. (knocking on wood here)

  4. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Fall! I'm on Long Island in New York State and we do get some nice foliage. Better is going to visit my friend in northern New Jersey (near PA) where they've got great apple orchards (cider donuts, yum!) and really beautiful fall colors. Fall is my favorite, but Winter is my second favorite (if I can be snuggled up at home in a snowstorm). Fall and winter clothes are so much better than summer!

  5. It used to be my favorite season before I became a gardening junkie. Now its bittersweet. The weather is perfect(I can finally sleep at night) and the color is great(we get tour buses), but there are all those new chores...wood, puttying windows, figuring out how to pay for oil, and this year how to put in my new used wood stove. My back is killing me. I keep hoping that if it gets cold enough, my neighbor will stop blasting country music outdoors.

  7. Joni... the colour of the tree is still about 6 weeks away. It's from the campus at work and I took it last year!

  8. Autumn is beautiful here. We live across the street from a beautiful park that ajoins our Botanical Garden. That said....I become depressed when the days grow shorter and darkness comes earlier. And when we switch to standard time I really go through a sort of dismay for a while. And when spring first appears I become jubilant.

  9. Autumn in New Orleans is a second Spring! And then Spring is here by January. This is the time of year we really enjoy. Sadly there's not much Fall color in this sub tropical place.

  10. It's still in the 90's here. I wish we had seasons, and had leaves that actually change colors like that here!

  12. I agree with Jenniferz — fall clothes are so much better. Up in the midwest we do get a gorgeous fall and it's just beginning to start. I love it because the days are warm but the nights are cool enough for sleeping with the windows open and NO mosquitoes. I have great fall plants in the garden that have not even begun to bloom.

Just hoping our winter is not a repeat of last year which set a record for snow — over 100 inches! And trying not to think about heating bills.

  13. I completely share your sentiment. I enjoy the crisp mornings and walking the dogs in pleasant weather, but hate the shorter days and inevitable decline into winter.

  14. We're lucky that we have four clearly delineated seasons here. Our temps range from well below freezing in the winters to the high 90s in the summers, and everything in between!

  15. Totally love Autumn and yes to writer above. London in the Autumn isn't what we have on the U.S. East Coast. Here we have deep sapphire skies and that gorgeous riotous foliage. I used to be in London a lot in October and got tired of that flattened sky and pooped out trees...kinda...faded gold. I'd walk in the parks and miss home.

  16. We have four distinct seasons, I'm happy to say. Although winter is not nearly as cold as it could be. I do love fall, it's my favorite. But, I'm crazy for cold weather, and not so wild about the heat at all!

  18. Growing up in SoCal, we didn't really have distinct seasons. Now that I live in NorCal, Fall is definitely my favorite season. I love the colors, the crisp, but still sunny weather. It says that the holidays are just around the corner!

  19. This is tres jolie!!!

I used to not really appreciate the fall. But after moving to the beach, I've found a longing for it. But we do have our own kind of fall, like a crisp beach breeze, deeper blue sky and peeping shadows around our scrub oaks.

  21. Right after the hurricane hit Texas, it finally started to feel like fall here in Dallas....still around 75-85 degrees but that's a huge difference from our normal 100!
