Man on the Moon

On 20 July, 1969, the first man landed on the moon. nasa_moon_030_landing_mapIt’s pretty amazing to think that no one’s been back since 1976.

To celebrate, here’s REM’s Man on the Moon.

Do you believe they put a man on the moon?

    1. isn't there a debate about whether he said "a man" or "man"?

    2. The 'debate' is mostly Armstrong insisting he didn't flub the line. he did (i'd be nervous too.)

Also, my little car is a 1969---in special order rocketship silver, -A can't help but think that the color choice was moon landing inspired.

  2. I am afraid I come down on the conspiracy theorists side in this debate. I think it was staged. Arghhhh!

  4. I remember mom playing bridge with Mrs. Aldrin. We kids could play in the pool because their dad was in it with scuba gear.

Of course their 'dad' was Buzz Aldrin, 2nd man on the moon. He was perfecting spacewalking with the scuba gear. In fact inventing much about spacewalking himself.

Mr. Aldrin's pet monkey would ride around their backyard on the back of their dog.

    More stories.................

And to think, as a child I thought my life was BORING !

    1. If it doesn't thunder, we'll be okay over here. But since we need the rain so badly, who can complain?

  6. remember dial up modems and how slow that data transmitted. Well back in the 60's video transmitted slowly- down loaded -- did they use that term?? So the footage of man on the moon, almost stop action imagery compilations -- would have not captured an alien walking by -- where as Armstrong, no doubt was told to move slowly to be in the camera frame -- as if he could move fast. maybe he could, I was not there on the moon nor was I in Houston ha. Celebrate the moon landing with a moon pie, on second thought that is not a good idea B.Eden

  8. We were on vacation and my dad rushed out to rent one of the last tv's available as the beach rental didn't have one. I remember that. Don't remember the event so much!

  9. I too remember that day, we all thought we would have a day off school! Loved Reggie D's post on his visit to Baltimore and with you. Was it your first meeting with Reggie and Boy?

  10. I am your newest follower all the way from South Africa. I remember sitting with my parents glued to the radio with all that was going on around that first man on the moon...South Africa did not have television those years, it was only much later that we saw the film at school...
    Thank you for this.

  11. This is one pf my first recollections of watching tv...that and the Orioles playing the Mets in the 1969 World Series...let's not talk about how that ended.

  12. I was three years old, so I don't remember much about that. I think we should leave the moon alone, to remain mystic and surreal the way she likes to be.

P.S. Come by my place, I got a facelift! *wink*
