There’s a house that I drive by with some regularity and I noticed recently that it was on the market. I finally remembered to look it up, and imagine my delight when I saw that it was a terrific place, both inside and out. A really unique house for the center of the city.
It certainly doesn’t look like the center of the city, does it?
It’s one of a row of houses set back from the street, with a small fenced front garden. Luckily, these few houses remained when there was some ghastly urban renewal done just up the block.
When you enter the house, you see that it’s light and airy, and the décor holds true to the period of the house, probably mid 1800’s.
There look to be a number of working fireplaces in the house, which is a real bonus.
There’s a large dining room with some interesting woodwork, and the up-to-the-second Marsala walls.
The kitchen is contemporary, and what’s that I see peeking out of the back? A second staircase. If you’ve ever had one in a house, you will know who valuable it is!
The house has four bedrooms, although it looks like they’re not all being used as that. It looks like they’re using one of the bedrooms as a pool room. I’d hate to be the one moving the pool table! Notice the Raven on the light fixture!
This looks like a sitting room on the third floor with another working fireplace.
This looks like it might be the master bedroom.
And the bath, with a bidet! (I would have taken the robe off the back of the door.)
Another bath. There must be really tall people living here because the mirrors are SO high!
There’s even a work-out room with heart-beats along the wall.
And another bedroom! Isn’t that more than four?
There’s a porch off the back side of the house. The gardens of some of these houses are amazing! Because there’s such a small amount of space for a garden, people really do a lot with the space. And with all the trees, the porch would be nice and private during the summer.
The house’s style is listed as a Charleston Colonial and it is 4,700 square feet. It’s on the market for $599,000. Details are here.
This house is a gem. Another outstanding Baltimore home on the market that has a similar charming front courtyard and incredible light as its a true free standing home in Federal Hill is 803 William Street (www.803william.com). History, grace and water views!
ReplyDeleteI know the person who lived in that house! It's a sweet house and the BEST block of William Street. Lots of fun people!
DeleteA beauty, but, center city makes me think twice!
ReplyDeleteCenter city is fine by me!
DeleteCharming. A real gem. But the art work over the fireplace in the living room is a jarring note.
ReplyDeleteIn some of the other pictures, you could tell that the owner was a big sports nut, and if I am guessing correctly, the painting is by local artist, Robert McClintock. It is a bit jarring though.
DeleteTha's a great buy!! i'd change most of the interiors--but everyone has their own style. Mary
ReplyDeleteIt is a great buy, and this is a great area, too!
Deletereally good for the money + I would change some things.xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
ReplyDeleteYes, I'd get rid of the heart monitor on the wall, to start!

Pam's great!
DeleteEutaw Place is still a no-go zone for anybody with sense, though at least it isn't too close to North Avenue. The housing stock on that particular block between Mosher and Lafayette is beautiful and exceptionally well-preserved, though.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't exactly say that. I think that if you're living on Eutaw Place, you might be a little more careful.
DeleteOmg in any australian city that same house would sell for several million dollars!
ReplyDeleteThat's why we love Baltimore!
DeleteThe robe and the cheap soap dispenser. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! That, too!
DeleteVery great post. I simply stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed browsing your weblog posts. After all I’ll be subscribing on your feed and I am hoping you write again very soon!
ReplyDeleteGosh, compared to England that is a whole lot of house for the money! You could probably double it!
