Poppies at the Tower

One of the things that was on the top of my London list was to seen the amazing commemoration of the centenary of the beginning of World War I. A public art project filled the moat around the Tower of London with more than 800,000 ceramic poppies, each representing someone who died during the war.

The installation is very dramatic and also very moving. While I wish I had been able to see the full effect, I got a good taste of what was done.

  1. Stunning, and sobering. A fitting tribute to those that gave their last full measure. The USA is still experiencing growing pains, the average joe so undignified, the conventions of society flaunted, and rocks are thrown and fires set.

    1. I can't even imagine what it was like when the entire moat was filled with poppies.

    1. There was about 20% of it remaining. The part along the Embankment.
