All day long, the song about Ascot from My Fair Lady has been running through my mind.
The best news of the day was that HM Queen Elizabeth II’s horse, Estimate, won the Ascot Gold Cup, the biggest race of Ascot Race week. She was so happy and excited by this win and it was just great to see that emotion.
She was due to present the Gold Cup to the winner, but instead, her son, Prince Andrew, presented the cup to her.
As usual, there were crazy hats galore at Ascot, and each year, they get more and more outlandish.
This one’s not so bad, but it’s probably a couture paper boat hat.
It’s hard to tell that there’s even a person in there
She’s probably pulling in satellite signals from outer space.
It’s not a scene from The Birds, it’s a hat.
I love the UK, you can bet on pretty much anything.
Preparing for the upcoming Royal birth
The gents have it a little easier – a morning suit and a topper.
The dear Florence Claridge, looking a wee bit skeletal.
HM looking exceedingly happy with her race manager. As do Beatrice and Eugenie
As her jockey look on, HM gives her winning filly a pat on the nose.
Guide dog Zoe gets into the act, but doesn’t look too happy
I’d say this gal got it pretty right.
It’s always fun to see what the Ladies wear on Ladies’ Day at Ascot.
I think we will be seeing HRH wearing lilac to the races more often - it must be her lucky color. I don't bet normally but I might bet some money on what she will wear to the next races!
ReplyDeleteWhich are the next big races? Some over the summer?
DeleteWhat a delightful post!! Such a joy to see the Queen really enjoying the win at Ascot. The hats were such fun to see. Thank you for a good start to my day. Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt's so great to see the genuine joy on her face!
DeleteIt seems odd to say this about the queen, but she was just so adorable! i guess because she's the same age as my grandma and reminds me so much of her. Some of these hats are really fantastic!
ReplyDeleteShe is adorable!
DeleteI absolutely love to see the ladies hats at the races. Always fascinating if not always beautiful!

ReplyDeleteThe funny thing about HRH's video is watching her racing manager slapping her arm with excitement! It's just "not done" to touch her!
DeleteWhat a fun post and review of Ascot! Thanks for sharing all of this.
ReplyDeleteFun to see Queen Elizabeth so excited! ;-)
Literally laughed out loud at the picture of the dog wearing a hat. There's just something wrong, but really funny, about dogs in clothes and accessories.
ReplyDeleteNo idea who Florence Claridge is, but I have just one word for her: TURTLENECKS 8-)
