P-Patch Update: Part 3

I had friends over to dinner on Sunday and wanted to show them my pumpkin patch. Imagine my surprise when I spotted not one, but two actual pumpkins! This was what it looked like last week!We have had a lot of rain in the last week, and I am of the opinion that regardless of how much you water plants, they always do much better with rainwater. The lawn guy has been great – he cuts the grass on both sides of the fence, and is very careful to trim around the spreading arms of the plants, everywhere they’ve grown.

Here’s the other pumpkin, which is slightly larger at about six inches.I am thrilled with my crop! You can see part 1 here, and part 2 here.

  1. There is something inexplicably exciting about growing pumpkins. Part of it is that autumn is coming and for those of us who love that season, it is good news!

  5. Bill would be so envious of you! We simply don't have the heat or the growing season here in NE England. However, I am finally managing to grow some cherry tomatoes in a small greenhouse!

  7. Do you need something to support your pumpkins or can they just flop around in mid air? A pumpkin sling or something?
