I was wandering around the Guardian's website at lunch and saw this plate. Is it just me, or do those bugs look like roaches? I don't think I'd want bugs like these (or any others) roaming across my dinner plate.

ewwwwwwww.
ReplyDeletelol.
Hmmmm .... I'm still pondering this ... Part of me loves it (weird, trompe l'oeil, et cetera), and the other part wants to reach for a can of Raid.
ReplyDeleteTS & AL... check out his other works (click here), which are all very bug-centric! Some scarabs, but others that are very roach-like!
ReplyDeleteThere's a Herend pattern that I love with butterflies, but these are a little too roachy for me. I do like the colors, though.
ReplyDeleteicky-poo
ReplyDeleteRight there with you - yuck.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope it is some kind of rare and exquisite beetle!! xv
ReplyDeleteHello! Those are not roaches, they are Japanese beetles -- the scourge of roses through much of planet. Doesn't change the ick factor though. I'll pass on the plates.
ReplyDeleteGood grief. :/
ReplyDeleteAnon... the Japanese beetles I remember picking off our roses were shorter and rounder than these. They looked more like scarabs. Nevertheless... no bugs on plates unless they're cute bugs.
ReplyDeleteBugs and food: They DO NOT mix.
ReplyDeleteI'm hearing a crunching noise that goes with the bugs...
ReplyDeleteNow my uvula is stuck in the back of my throat and I am beginning to gag.
The roses do have nice depth to the pink though.
wow, even the perky green doesn't help.
ReplyDeleteMight be useful in getting rid of unwanted houseguests of genus/species Homo Sapien Sapiens. Just serve everyone else a normal dish, and then give them a surprise... I'll stick with ogling Royal Dutch Copenhagen, thanks.
ReplyDelete* "O... M... G... I... H..."!!! * I'm w/ the others, of course~ And MRS. BLANDINGS hit the nail on the head~~~ pretty butterflies and/or "sweet beings" are ONE thing, but THIS? (The colors A-R-E striking, tho!). When "SOODIE" commented, I almost "did the same" as him/her, too... and "ewwwwwwwww"!!!
ReplyDeleteAll my friends n' family know I am T*H*E "animal/living-thing" lover of all time, but um, yeah, well, NOT THERE!!! Sooooo I'm sorta "curious"... did you end up "DRINKING" your lunch???
Big smiles,
Linda in AZ *
Hi Meg,
ReplyDeleteWe have all been sick as dogs with your blazing sore throat, etc.I have a proper thank you note for you. May I please have your mailing address? I would love to get together in Baltimore again. Look at your calendar and send me some dates. xoxo Amy aka Lavinialab
yeah..me either, i don't wanna see those thing when having my food..:D
ReplyDeleteWhile the color is not like that of a roach, the shape def. is. And that's about how big roaches are too. Seeing that I'm deathly afraid of roaches, I'll pass!
ReplyDeleteYet another case of "What Were They Thinking?" On second thought, perhaps the best china for the Grey Gardens gals to serve their "pate" on.
ReplyDeleteUh, no. Not on a plate with food.
ReplyDeleteno no no
ReplyDeleteI have to draw the line, when it comes to "edgy" and creative, at bugs on my plate. Ok, maybe a butterfly or a honeybee but big blue beetles? No.
I don't like plates with designs of any kind in the middle. They compete with the food. Designs are best left to the rim.
ReplyDeleteThat said, the bug motif would not appetizing to most people who would eat their dinner on fancy china.
It's a stunning image, however. I could see hanging it on a wall somewhere.
Oh, gross.
ReplyDeleteyes - they look like like cockroaches. A pretty green, but...
ReplyDeleteEww. Yes. Gross. The roaches were awful in Texas. I'm glad all I have to deal with here in England are the spiders.
ReplyDeleteBeautifull work! The colors are so sweet!
ReplyDeleteVal...
Eeeew is right! I don't think so!
ReplyDeleteOh. No. I don't think I'd want my eggs sitting on these.
