WOW! I hope that you had a chance to see the Preakness. We were all so excited to see Curlin win by a nose! We all bet on the race by drawing names from a hat, or in our case, a colander. So the winner was drawn at random. I am still up cleaning up the aftermath, and will post the details, and the big surprise tomorrow sometime.
Thanks so much to everyone who's extended good wishes for my father. This is terribly difficult for all of us, but we know he's getting great care.

I was there as well. Had Curlin picked as the top 3 year old since his 2nd victory. There were tears in my eyes as he vindicated my semi-public annointing of him in light of that insanely tough Derby trip.
ReplyDeleteI can honestly say that was the best race I've ever seen in my life. My wife and I were sitting w/ people from the "Thoroughbred Times" (great fans of the sport) and some knew jockey R. Albarado. When he went down a few races before hand, all were greatly concerned. Thank god he was okay.
We had the honor of seeing Curlin saddled right before our eyes (his post parade position being on the Turf, right in front of our Grandstand seats), see him begin "the move" on Street Sense right in front of us (the way I remember it, I called it in the stands similar to the guy on TV - "here comes Curlin!!!!"), as well as to cheer Curlin and Albarado on as they did the victory lap by our seats (" 'atta boy Robbie!!!!").
Amazing. I'm still shaking from it.
If you're looking for a cool momento, I suggest checking out one of the many amazing photos of the final finish available on news sites. I picked a 17x20 up from the Baltimore Sun's website, framed, for $100. Couldn't resist. Curlin is my favorite horse of all time.
That was by far the greatest race I've ever seen. Without question the most exciting win ticket (the exacta being nothing to brag about) I've ever cashed. Congrads to those likeminded out there that cashed the same.
Word is, he might've cracked Secretariat's record at Pimlico. That's right, THE Secretariat!!!!
