Out and About

This is the post I had written on Sunday when Google and I had the meltdown and it wouldn’t post.

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to visit a small boutique hotel that’s opening shortly in Baltimore, and late last week, I had the chance to visit the Hotel Indigo that’s opening in Baltimore’s Mount Vernon cultural district. It’s located in an early 1900’s former YMCA building which has been updated for the 21st century.

The architects took out an entire floor to make a double-height entrance, complete with a bar and lounge. The lighting through the building is really fun, and includes these Sputnik-style fixtures,

as well as these over the bar, made from old decanters. IMG_1798

Each of the rooms, has a Baltimore theme to them, and features one of four signature, specially-designed murals.

If you look carefully, you can spot Poe’s Raven, books by local authors Tom Clancy and Anne Tyler, and even John Waters’ pink flamingos. In addition, the artwork in the rooms highlights Baltimore. IMG_1811

The views from the rooms look out on several of Baltimore’s notable landmarks, including the copper dome of the historic Basilica, designed by Benjamin Latrobe, architect of the Capitol buildings in D.C.IMG_1805

To the north, there are stunning views of Baltimore’s Washington Monument. IMG_1833I am hoping to get back after they open so that I can check out the loft rooms they’re creating.

On the way home from the Hotel Indigo, I passed this formerly beautiful building, an old theatre. I remember going to a movie premiere there when I was a child. IMG_1867

I am obsessed with flowers this spring. I find myself snapping away at the gorgeous ones I see on a daily basis. This is a stunning clematis. IMG_1340

For the past year or so, I’ve been working on a super-secret project with a friend, and it’s all about to come to fruition in the next month. I will be giving all the details shortly, but thought I’d give you a little hint. IMG_1944 (2)

Hope you had a great weekend! It’s hard to believe it’s June first already!

  1. With the barn as a clue, I'll venture a guess on your super secret project. Are you becoming a hedgehog farmer in your spare time?

  6. I stayed at the Indigo Hotel in Dallas, and it was fabulous. We must have been upgraded because we had a huge room and sitting room. Very creative design. Although, my favorite is the Magnolia Hotel. Updated, but old school with high ceilings and huge windows. Both are in walking distance from the arts district, a truly wonderful area of Dallas.

  7. Did you get a racehorse? That looked like a muck rake out front of the barn.
