A 9/11 Story

When we think that we’ve heard all of the heroic stories about 9/11/01, there are still more to be told.

On September 11, 2001, more than a half a million people were evacuated from the lower end of Manhattan Island in just nine hours. This is the largest boatlift in history. In contrast, during WWII, over 330,000 people were evacuated from Dunkirk, but that was over nine days. Yet few people know the story of the 9/11 boatlift.

I hope that you will take a few minutes and watch this video. Then you will understand that countless unknown people were heroes on that sad day.

If you lived through this day, you will never forget what happened.

  2. Thank you.

I clearly remember that day. I was born and raised on Long Island and spent a large part of my career in Manhattan. Although I was on the west coast when this happened, I felt it deeply. I had friends and family in the area.

This video illustrates the capacity for people to do the right thing, good things when the unimaginable happens.

I had tears on my cheeks the entire time I watched it.

  3. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Like Squeak and Jill I had an emotional reaction to the selflessness of these gentlemen. I don't think I would have seen this tribute otherwise.

  6. Living in Britain on that day I was quite removed in some ways, though really in the face of it in others. Thanks for sharing this amazing video.

  9. Thanks Meg, lost a former student and field hockey players over PA. Just spent the weekend in NYC taking water taxis. Video made me weep when I saw the Moran tug - so love watching them off of Ft. McHenry.

    1. So sorry for your loss. Shocking how many people had some connection to someone who was lost.

And I love the Moran tugs, too!

My goodness. What an unknown story, and a wonderful tribute to all the people simply helping their fellow man in the worst time ever. Thanks for showing this. x

  11. I very much enjoyed this piece. It really hit home with me as I was a part of a similar, though smaller, boatlift in 1989. I was working on a ferry in San Francisco when the Earthquake hit, collapsing roadways and the Bay Bridge. All available ferries cancelled charters and sightseeing routes and entered emergency service. We hauled many thousands of people away from the blacked out waterfront in San Francisco and away from the natural gas leaks which had us very nervous every time we landed to retrieve more stranded people. I worked for 18 hours before ever being able to determine if my family was safe. Thanks for this video.

  13. I watched this video 5 times yesterday and then posted it on my blog with a link to your post so that others can come view it. It lifted some of the sorrow I still feel when this time of year rolls around. I also had no idea the boatmen did such a service for the people that day. What a credit to our country they all are.

  14. That’s right, this website is one of the top 12,000 most viewed in FUCKING PAKISTAN.
Why? Because they are the “English speaking writers” this fucked up company hires. I have also found evidence that suggests they have other writers in India and the Philippines. I know of a couple of companies that offer real English writers and I thought was one of them. Turns out they’re just a bunch of liars.

The scam is real. They are thieves who could care less about you. Maybe you’ve had a couple decent papers from them. But sleep well knowing that they will take any measure to screw you over.

That’s enough. Rant’s over. Fuck you,

    Sincerely,
A VERY PISSED OFF FORMER CUSTOMER

    2 THOUGHTS ON “MY REVIEW”

You are right. I have been debating with them for at least a month now, trying to get my refunds, it’s because the writer can’t even write shit or follow the prompt. Claimed to be “professional” yeah right. They also claimed that they refunded my money already by just clearing out my balance. However, the email I received from money bookers still saying I was charged on that date. They lied & keep on saying “your refunds should be in 4-6.” i waited & after 2 weeks, still nothing. I keep on checking back even though they closed my inquiry many times. I mean, I only uploaded $55 for the balance, but I didn’t use it. The money isn’t that a big deal, it’s just the writers & their service is poorly done. I cancelled the writer because 1. Passed deadline 2. The paper was off topic, completely vague, lacks development & much more. 3. way different from U.S writing style 4. Busy schedule & I just want to try how this service work. Personally, i definitely to not recommend this service.
