One of the things I love about Baltimore is that each neighbourhood has a unique character. Even if the neighbourhoods are only blocks apart, they are different. I am house-sitting for friends who live on Baltimore's Inner Harbour, and it's the perfect place to watch the fireworks over the water.
However, it's a tradition that happens earlier in the day that is what I love the most. Residents hold a 4th of July Parade, walking through the streets and the park, with the local fire station's truck leading the way.The fife & drum corps from close-by Fort McHenry also play. All of the children decorate their bikes, scooters and strollers, dress in red, white and blue, and follow along. After the parade, there's a street party.
Much later on, there are amazing fireworks from two locations in the harbour.
Hope you had a great day, regardless of where you were on July 4th!
God Bless America!
ReplyDeletelooks like fun - you were lucky to have sun - pea soup damp and fog up in the northeast
ReplyDeleteMy 4th was all about sitting on a piazza hung with red-and-white-striped cotton curtains, hands cradling glasses of Champagne, one's beloved building tower-like bonfires at the end of the kitchen garden, and children riding their bicycles up and down the drive.
ReplyDeleteSounds like everyone had a great time celebrating with family and friends.
ReplyDeleteThere's something very Norman Rockwell-ish about that parade. Very sweet.
ReplyDeleteThe first guy has no underwear on, clearly.
ReplyDeleteVery patriotic! Nice posting!
ReplyDeleteMeg, you always make us feel as if we are there. Great region to be in on the Fourth. Happy Independence Day!

What a cool town you live in! It's still on my list of "places to visit with the possibility of buying a home". Love your new banner!
ReplyDeleteJust about as true blue as you could hope for. What a sight it must have been!
