Long Weekend

I had actually set aside the weekend to bond with my new dog, but alas that didn’t happen. The dog I had picked out was sent to a rescue group and it was no longer available. I was terribly disappointed by this, but then rationalized that it probably happened for a good reason. I am keeping the faith that the right dog is out there and will arrive at the right time.

It was this weekend in 2011 that I lost Connor for 24 hours. imageI had zipped out for a coffee and somehow he got out of the house – not a big shock to anyone who knew his history as Houdini. As much trouble as Connor could be, I miss him every day.

Since I had cleared the calendar, I figured this was a good weekend to “get things done”, which happened more or less. Lots of reading, puttering around, etc. I listed some new pieces of the mother of pearl cutlery on my Etsy Shop, including a spectacular and perfect set of 24 knives and forks, no 94 (2)

a dozen wonderful forks, no 40 (3)

and some lovely knives from France.no 95 (2)

I had some peaches that went from rock hard to squishy in the blink of an eye, IMG_5121so I whipped up a very small batch of peach and brandy preserves. IMG_5122I have done the same recipe with bourbon, but I was out of bourbon and liquor stores in Baltimore aren’t open on Sundays (whose crazy idea is that??). I told you it was a small batch! IMG_5127You can find the recipe here from a few years ago. Of course, I had to change it a wee bit. Seriously, who in their right mind would use 1/2 teaspoon of bourbon?

As I was doing laundry, I noticed that I have a few stripey shirts! So I decided to stack them up to see how many I have!IMG_5100

They’re just so easy to wear and you can dress them up or down. I even have a Pinterest board dedicated to Stripey Shirts!

Historic week coming up and I was glad I remembered the banners that I had picked up in Wales last fall. IMG_5182

You can see that the gardenia is blooming again, as it has for the past month or so, just a few blossoms at a time, but that’s fine with me!IMG_5179

Hope you weekend was great! Tell me about what you did!

  2. Ha! I love stripey shirts. I have quite a collection as well and my 6 year-old daughter often wears navy and white striped dresses.

  5. Can't you contact the rescue group? You would make such a great home; I hate to think that dog missed out!

  6. Oh, Meg. I feel for you. The right dog will surely come along soon and when it does you'll both know it and it will be fireworks all over again.

The stripey shirt pic is such fun, and what a great idea to preserve the squishy peaches and not let them go to waste. I bet they taste delish!
