I have a photograph of Edith Wharton writing at her desk, that I found in one of her books that I bought used once. She's one of my muses. I read that thick biography of her last fall. What a life. It's hard to believe this house isn't being treated like the jewel that it is. Henry James stayed there for cri sakes.
This is such a shame! I live about 40 minutes from it and when I last drove by, a couple of months ago, it just looks abandoned! I hope that whoever takes over next will revive it!
Pigtown Design is the musings of Meg Fairfax Fielding, a Baltimore-based writer, photographer and fund-raiser, who explores design, architecture, culture, and current events in Baltimore and around the world.
That which we elect to surround ourselves with becomes the museum of our soul and the archives of our experiences... Thomas Jefferson, Architect & U.S. President
For the most ordinary event to become an adventure, all you have to do is talk about it...
Nothing comes cheap, though the educated eye will always spot very nice things for the least money. - Albert Hadley1921-2012
The ornament of a house is the friends that frequent it. Ralph Waldo Emerson

It's not online, but there's a great article on The Mount in the April 28 issue of the New Yorker.
ReplyDeleteIf I win the powerball, I promise to donate $3m to save it. (gotta get a ticket now, I guess)
I love, love, love this photograph! I hope the Mount can be saved...I already made my pledge!!!
