Ladew Garden Fest!

I was invited to the Preview Party for the Ladew Garden Fest and it was such fun! Such fun to be the first to see everything, that is! I have been to Ladew’s Garden Fest for the past few years, and it doesn’t disappoint.

The evening was perfect – high 70’s with a nearly full moon rising above the rolling hills. The estate looks as good as I’ve ever seen it, thanks to recent rains, an amazingly warm spring, and virtually no winter.

There are a number of plantsmen, antiques dealers and garden ornaments purveyors again this year, and you can see the list of who’s showing here.

Pennoyer Newman never disappoints, and this year, their garden urns and planters were prettier than ever. I loved this regal blue heron – one of my favourite birds.

And this unusual fleur de lis urn and its scalloped edge is fabulous.

There was a selection of terra cotta planters at Seibert & Rice.

Halcyon House Antiques always has the most beautiful things, and the way the early evening light was streaming in the windows of the tent set their wares off beautifully. They always decorate their space with stunning flower arrangements and handsful of cut flowers.

I had the chance to see some of the most unusual and unique plant and flower specimens, and found a few favourites.

Terrific tri-colour

Black petunias

Black and yellow petunias

This looks like something from a Dr. Seuss book,

doesn’t it?

Thankfully, the double-file viburnum was in bloom again this year. I am just in awe of this plant. It’s so fascinating.I walked around the perimeter of the house since I knew the light was so clear and low, and I was glad I did.Everything was just glowing. We are so lucky to have Ladew in our area, and I can’t recommend enough that you visit. In addition to the Garden Fest, there are concerts, polo matches, lectures and lots of other special events.

Information on Ladew Gardens is here.

Check back tomorrow to hear about the lecture with Carolyne Roehm!

    1. Oh, no Kerry! They're certainly not "steeler stripes"! Not here in Ravens country!
