I have a theory that after our brutal winter along the Mid-Atlantic, we are having the most beautiful spring, because all living things are rejoicing that winter’s over! The flowers have been spectacular this spring, and today, one of my co-workers brought me a massive bunch of lilacs from her country property. They smell fabulous and really brighten my office. I’ve placed them in a vase in my fireplace where they are set off to perfection. Thanks, Maggie!
A neighbor gave me a bunch of lilacs last week. They only lasted a few days, but the scent was spectacular.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a way to extend them? I wish mine had lasted longer.
Lilac...one of my very favourites...xv
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing, about how nice the spring is, and how well the azaleas, seem to be doing after the difficult winter. Lots of leland cypress and other tall firs seem to be damaged, or have already been cut down in my neighborhood, but overall, the flowering woodies and evergreens seem to be doing well in MoCo.
ReplyDeleteI've read that snow has ions in it that plants like that are not in rain. It also seems into the groundwater better than rain, which runs off more quickly. Finally, it insulates, so underneath, the soil only gets so cold and no more. Anyway, they are beautiful photos, and you guys certainly deserve a great spring.
ReplyDeleteThere is not a better gift! They look so beautiful in the fireplace too. Lilacs are perhaps my favorite flower. Thanks for sharing Meg!!
ReplyDeletelilacs - an all time favorite - they have even started to pop up here - due to the 90 degree days in March - and the scent - just divine. I hope all the flowers are bushes are still bursting with color next week so i can see in person
ReplyDeleteso lovely. there is nothing like the fragrance of lilacs. they were my mother's favorite flower. i live in houston now and lilacs won't grow here i am sorry to say. thanks for a lovely post
ReplyDeleteI love lilacs. How nice to get an armful and they look great in that vase in the fireplace.
ReplyDeleteThe lilacs are gorgeous.....there is nothing quite as beautiful as an East Coast Spring. The new green of the trees, the rampant colors and the smell of freshness and new life. Here on the West Coast (LA), we are having a treat: a cool rainy Spring--perfect!!! Thanks for the great post.
ReplyDeleteThat first photo's gotta be Sherwood Gardens. Yes?
ReplyDeleteThe lilacs have been breathtaking. If I pass a bush while I'm out walking, I always stop to inhale the fragrance. It's one of those things you wish you could take with you. Is there anything as beautiful, as transporting, as spring?
