The Book Thing

There are many times that I reference the Book Thing in my posts, usually in the context of having found some fabulous book there, but you might not know what the Book Thing actually is.

In today’s local paper, there was a great article about the Book Thing, how it was created and what exactly they do. Click here to read it.

I thought I’d share some of the treasures I’ve found at the Book Thing.

Numerous copies of the Chic Simple books, still relevant almost 25 years later.image

One of the prize finds: The Giraffe Cover to with the Zebra Cover!image

A fairly comprehensive collection of books on JBKO.image

Another great find! I also found one of his books on flowers.image

I probably find a copy of this book every other month.image

Billy Baldwin’s Decorates, as well as copies of Remembers. One even had the original review letter in it.image

I hope that you will take a moment to read the article on The Book Thing. It’s truly one of the things that makes Baltimore special.

    1. The best part is that because the books are only shelved by the broadest categories, you always find something you'd never see in all of the browsing on Amazon or on the shelves of Barnes & Noble!

    1. I love these books, too! I have been collecting them since they were first published. Did you see the piece I wrote about them a few months ago? http://pigtown-design.blogspot.com/2014/09/chic-simple.html

  5. Four Years in Paradise - prize find indeed! We had the good fortune to live in Hawaii for my husband's work for four years and that is how I would describe it. Everyday was a holiday. Wish I could find that book someday.

  7. Hi Meg, I am a little late coming to your party as I just found your blog. I grew up in Baltimore. I have lived many places but quirky old Baltimore is still home. I visit as often as I can. The media always bashes our town, but there are many fun and beautiful things about her they never mention. The Book Thing is one of them. I always stop in when possible.
I love your blog. Thanks for letting people there is more to Baltimore than "The Wire"!
