I Found This And Thought of You.

That’s the title of the new exhibition at Sir John Soane’s Museum in London. For the first time ever, the great architect’s private apartments are open to the public. As you might expect, if you know anything about Sir John Soane, they look amazing. Soane died in 1837, and the museum was his former home, library and Regency architectural practice in Lincoln’s Inn Fields.image

In conjunction with the opening of the apartments, a new exhibit has opened featuring many of the treasures from the Soane Museum. Artists, architects and others have each created a post card using as the theme: “Inspired by Soane: I Found This And Thought of You.” Each card is a riff on one of the pieces in the museum.

Perhaps one of the most interesting postcards in the group is by Michael Graves, the noted architect who died earlier this year. This was his last piece of art, and it’s being auction separately by the US arm of the Sir John Soane’s Museum Foundation (ask me about US/UK Foundations – I can bore you for days!). Graves was on the advisory board at the foundation.image

The cards are being auctioned off in London on June 26th. For more information, please click here. And if you’re ever in London, I cannot recommend a visit to Sir John Soane’s Museum highly enough!

  1. I second your recommendation on a visit to the Soane Museum. The Evening Tours are apparently quite superb too:

as you might imagine. The Elmgreen & Dragse card appeals to me most.
