Ascot Ladies Day!

Every year at this time, England celebrates the races at Royal Ascot. The Queen and her family arrive in a horse-drawn landau coach and sometimes her horses even race… and win! But, befitting being in the presence of Royalty, there are guidelines to which one must adhere. Especially the ladies. image

Sometimes it works beautifully, and there are gorgeous outfits, with stunning hats to go along with them. image

This hat is described as eau de nil. I love that.image

This is the a capella band, the Tootsie Rollers. image

A throwback to the My Fair Lady days?image

The hat is the best part of this. image

Very elegant and understated.image

This was made on a 3D printer!image

Very classic.image

I’d be very unhappy if I was seated behind her.image

There’s a lot going on here.image

Not quite sure how she even managed to fit through the turnstile in this!image

Countess of Wessex. Perfection.image

As the Guardian says, a triumph of engineering and bad taste. You’d never see a comment like that in an American newspaper!image

I love a good Pimms, but not this one!image

Which is your favourite?

  1. The very first one. The more veil, the better:).

  2. Sophie Wessex had the most tasteful hat but I love that last Pimms one! Funny though this year they didn't stress the size of the hats so much bc was it last year or two years ago they revised the dress code and hats were meant to be a certain size?

    1. I think that the hats have to have a 4 inch base so as to eliminate the fascinators that were just a bunch of feathers and leaves stuck to your head.

  3. I enjoyed watching it all on TV yesterday, the hats were just fab. The first girl in the red, was actually 'Miss China' and she really did look lovely. I rather like the eau-de-nil with the orange flowers.

    1. Didn't know she was Miss China! And I agree about the eau-de-nil one.

  4. eau-de-nil, but I would consider some of the others for mardi gras!

  5. Number six, elegant and understated and Wessex. Some were whimsical and creative...the rest, bleh!

  6. What's with the annoying pop up ad?

    1. What was the ad? That's generally on your computer... it's nothing that i control.

    2. Oh thank god. This strange full-screen ad for a product so important I can't even remember what it was, popped up and stayed on the screen for 27 seconds. I thought, this doesn't seem like something Meg would do and I remember in your survey you said any ads you did would be subtle. I must've hit something by accident.

    3. And I would NEVER do pop-ups! I hate them and wouldn't torture anyone else with them. I get random things that pop up, so I just run a scan on my machine.

  10. I love the eau de nil hat, but not what she is wearing. Countess of Wessex gets the vote for a totally pulled together look. I am a hat wearer, and it's a real pet peeve of mine to see women wearing their hair down while wearing a dressier hat. I have long hair, but I still chignon it or bun it up when wearing a more formal hat.
