Hermès + Vans = Cool Kicks

An image popped up on my Pinterest page over the weekend and I realized that I had blogged about it before. But three years later, I am still enchanted by the concept.image

Although I am not a huge fan of Vans, I’d love to try this with a pair of plain flats that I have!image

The first time I went to France by myself, I bought an Hermès scarf for myself, but on the flight home, something broke in my bag and got onto the scarf. It was stained pretty badly, and no amount of cleaning would take the stain out. I could artfully tie it so the (red) spots didn’t show, and I still have the scarf, so this might be a good use for it! Really, I can’t ruin the scarf any more than I have.

Here are a few other pairs of Vans.

imageimageMy friend David is the master “upcycler” so maybe he and I can figure out how to do this!

Speaking of upcycling (even thought I don’t like that word), over the weekend, I re-purposed an old sweater. I had a lace-overlay skirt and needed a top to wear with it. So I took an old cashmere crew-neck sweater, and cut it to make it more of a scoop neck, and then cut the cuffs off the arms to make them bracelet length. Then I took a vintage fur collar and hand-sewed it to the collar of the sweater. 2014-02-01_16-05-24_58_edited-1

It worked perfectly and was an ideal outfit for our annual Groundhog Day Party!

  4. Meg - you should take your scarf and get it crimped at Hermes - i had a scarf where the ink ran and i thought that was the end of that but then you can go and crimp it by them as they used to do with their scarf and it becomes like brand new because the crimps hide any damage!
But I love those vans but I would have to wear them as slippers inside the house!

    1. Ohhh... didn't know about the crimping. I will check it out. I know that something I saw said to pour boiling water over the scarves where the dyes had run.
