Read Me! (But not on Google Reader)

aliceAs you might know, Google Reader will be ceasing operation on July 1, 2013. I know a lot of my readers read Pigtown*Design in Google Reader and that you’re going to need another solution come the first of July.

I have several suggestions:

  • You can subscribe to Pigtown*Design and have it delivered to your in-box each morning before 8:00 EST. There’s a box to the right where you can enter your e-mail and it will start coming as of the next post. Look for the box that looks like the one below.

  • You can starting reading your feeds through some other services like Feedly.com which has an interface similar to Google Reader’s. Another service is called The Old Reader, which looks like Google Reader before they started fooling with it.

I suggest you start looking around for a service that fits your needs before it all goes away. What are you waiting for? Wikipedia Rabbit Alice_par_John_Tenniel_02Time’s a ticking!

  1. FYI, I follow you on bloglovin. I think there are quite a few people using that so perhaps you could get a button as well? I will be using both apps to read my blogs.

  2. I just hooked up, so to speak, with blogloving last night and was able to import my entire google reader.

But will I lose you on my blog list?

    Changes. Meh.

  3. I an so old school. I type in P i g t o w n D e s i g n in the search bar everyday. The few seconds I save also keeps me below some one's radar. one less service feeding my metadata into an algorithm to use to charge a fee to do what ever they do. nothing is free-- these service-feeds are parlaying your keystrokes(clicks) into dollars. I hope this is not in Fishbowl

  4. Sometimes change is not needed. I do subscribe by both email and GFC. So is GFC also going by the wayside?

  5. Ugh -so annoying!!! Why are they stopping it anyway?? I spent an HOUR uploading all of my blogs to 'bloglovin' -yours included! If you don't mind I may copy parts of this post and put them up on my blog and link back to you!

    1. Stopping because most people apparently read on smart phones, etc.

  6. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Some people say that the Blogger Reading List is different than Google Reader but when I went to Google Reader for the first time last week, the entire list of blogs I read were there. So they're somehow connected. Not sure about blogrolls either. It seems to me they have to pull data from Google Reader and I think they're in jeopardy as well. There's no telling what might happen. The blog world might end and I might just have to get a life...or learn to like basketball and hockey...or I could Oxyclean my transferware.

    1. Not sure how the blogger reading list is different from Google. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

  9. Thanks for the reminder. I imported my blog list to Bloglovin a few weeks ago. I just now added a follow button for that site on my blog.

  10. I tried the OldReader first and liked how it looked the same as GoogleReader but I can't get it on my phone- where I do most of my blog reading. I tried Feedly on my phone and love how slick it looks!
