You Are One in a Million!

As I sit here writing this, with a freakishly savage storm raging all around me, and Connor on the shelf of my desk, I managed to check my statistics for the blog (vanity!). 11 30 6 29 total

This the total number of visitors since the early days of the blog. I couldn’t bear to look at the stats then, as it was just me and my mother reading it! Thanks, Mum!

In the next 24 hours, the numbers will roll over and hit one million. And of course, I will be obsessively checking to see when I hit the mark! And you’re one in a million! Thank you!

  1. Have you tried any of the remedies for Connor? Did anything work?

    1. Honestly, he could have been doped to the gills and this storm would have freaked him out. 70+ mile winds, hail, massive thunder and lighting, power flashing on and off...not fun!

  2. For dogs and thunderstorms, one thought is that the static electricity causes the discomfort. Ask your vet about using a dryer sheet to rub him during these times.

    1. That's a great idea. Last night, I was too worried about the power going out to hunt up the bounce sheets!

  4. Meg, we were walking Nika and talking to neighbors at end of street when storm hit, took us ten minutes of crouching down by cars,so as not to be hit by tree limbs, closing eyes , so as not to be blinded by flying gravel and other assorted indignities to get the block home.

That dog was glued to our sides. What a trooper. Actually we were all troopers.#terrifiedofsqualls.

  7. Congrats on your huge audience! I saw something advertised the other day called Thundershirt for dogs. Apparently it's like swaddling a baby and helps them calm down. Fortunately, my Martha is oblivious to storms and snores right through them but I've had dogs who have been terrified and it's not fun. Also glad to hear you will be able to spend more time working from home with Connor.

  11. Congratulations Meg. I went back to your very first blogs and loved reading about knitting lessons with your niece. I watched Hairspray on TV tonight and thought instantly of you when Tracy sang "Good Morning Baltimore". You should be the city's ambassador! Should be ? You are!!

  13. My ex-tomboy mother had no patience with her friends' scaredy-cat kids, so from the time my brothers & I were babies, whenever there'd be a big storm, she'd wrap us up in a blanket and carry us out to our big front porch to watch the excitement. When there was lightning, she would cheer and when there was a clap of thunder, she'd applaud like crazy. We learned to love storms, the bigger the better. Of course, our very proper neighbors probably wondered what the hell was wrong with the crazy family next door, but none of us were ever afraid of a little thunder. I still like stormy weather, although not as much when branches are crashing onto cars & trees are crushing houses. Glad you made it through the storm safe. We had heavy rains yesterday but nothing like that.

At any rate, I can tell you from experience that the wrapped-up thing helps to calm down kids, so the Thundershirt will probably work for Connor, too--if you can get him into it. Poor guy.

Congratulations on hitting your first million visitors. This is just the beginning.

  16. Congratulations on one million viewers...and surviving that storm. Derecho? I've had hurricanes pass over my house when I lived in NC and last night was almost as scary. Do you have power? I'm in Old Town Alexandria and lots of people in other parts of the city are without power.

All these milestones...I am certain things shall just continue to be increasingly jolly and lovely for you and Connor.

    1. Janet - most of the north side of Baltimore doesn't have power, although I venture to say, BGE is much better than PEPCO. I have it, but several of my neighbours don't.
