Carolyne Roehm Yard Sale!

The style- and taste-maker Carolyne Roehm is having an actual, honest-to-goodness yard sale at her home in Connecticut next weekend, July 9 & 10. fin4 Here’s what she has to say about it:

Having just had a "milestone birthday" and embracing some of the ideas from the book--titled "The Happiness Project" by Gretchen Rubin, I decided to do more than clear a shelf or a closet. In my usual obsessive way I tackled barns and attics, my studio and the basement. Whilst I am not quite going zen in style (far from it), I am attempting to "declutter".

This will not be the organized, "pretty" tag sale like the one I wrote about in Veranda Magazine a few years ago, but just your classic old fashioned yard sale. With a mix of things from garden hoses to some of my beloved ribbons and silk flowers (it has been hard for me to give up some of those, but this is an exercise in editing), there is a bit of everything.

If you are around the northwest corner of Connecticut, please stop by.

CR office2 If I wasn’t about a six hour drive, and didn’t already have plans, I’d be there in a heart-beat. You?

  1. Only SIX hours??? If I were that close I would ABSOLUTELY have to go! I can only imagine the hoards of shoppers who will descend upon her! Still, a sale not to be missed if you are nearby. So sorry you cannot attend and then blog about what you found there! Happy 4th weekend, Meg!

  3. Ahh you so should come!! :-) Finally something happens up here on my corner and yes, I am going - she's less than 20 minutes from me and is a regular here at the shop.
Looking for anything in particular, Meg? Do you want me to take photos for you? :-)

  4. Silk flowers? Something tells me they probably look better than the typical. It is a fabulous estate that I have passed many times. The stone Georgian house sets near a bend in the old road so it is very prominent at the edge of a charming village.

  5. I'm with Vicki H. If it's only six hours, I say go for it! It is hard to work up motivation to go to a sale so soon after having to move all your worldly possessions, though. Happy 4th to all!

  9. How did you find out about this? I think as a responsible design blogger it is your DUTY to go. I would go, but I am driving cross country right now, away from Connecticut. I would go, stay all day, and take pictures. Maybe Eddie Ross will cover it. We should alert Nate, he loves that kind of stuff, but Carolyn is a little fluffy for him. I'll bet the prices will be high. Carolyn hasn't lived a real life since she was a girl in St. Louis. Can you imagine the size 6 tops, and size 4 bottoms of old Carolyn Roehm labeled clothes! Carolyn and Gayfryd ruled New York in the 80's. Ann

  13. Hello Meg, Not sure but I think I just lost a comment I was attempting to post here. So forgive me if this is redundant. I drove by Ms. Roehm's house in Sharon back in May when I attended the Trade Secrets garden sale. It is spectacularly beautiful, and spectacularly maintained. I would imagine there will be quite a line to get into her yard sale. How nice and down to earth of her to have one. I have never met her (well once briefly in passing but that doesn't count) but I understand that she is a lovely person, which is something that most certainly comes through in her writing.

  15. 6 hours...I'd still go. Heck back in 2006 before Ikea opened up in Michigan I went to Canada & drove to Toronto because it was the closest. Yup but I wanted to outfit the Godkids rooms in their stuff. So find a great gal pal & road trip it. Stef & I had a blast...you will too!!!
